Hi!

I own a welsh section A mare, currently very over weight (is on a strict diet and has lost a lot but still needs to loose a lot more weight!!) who I wish to show in hand in the M&M classes when she loses a bit more weight. I dont have a clue about in hand showing, what to wear, what to do but I am hoping you guys could give me some tips! my welshie is from a showing back ground and is now 14 years old :)

To be honest, I asked about a bit when I was getting my gear together for showing my Fell colt, but I think the best advice was to look at what others wear/use - helped me decide what outfits I liked the look of best anyway! Seems to be a reasonable amount of variation, as shirts/jackets/waistcoats all seem 'acceptable', various types of shoes & footwear (as long as you can run in them!) etc.
So not seemingly the most helpful, but I'd just double check everything you 'like' fits with the rules of wherever you're showing/breed society etc. & other than that, go for it. We've gone a bit pink, which seems a bit out of the norm (red/gold/green/navy!) but it works for me, though Pea is probably glad I can't make him wear anything pink :P

I've shown Welsh ponies/cobs for years. Dress for Welsh As is the same as Cobs. In the summer when warm I wear a shirt and tie along with a waistcoat. Comfy trousers and I wear jod boots with a good grip. Some people wear trainers or football boots so they have grip. Cold days I replace the waistcoat with my tweed jacket. Head wear can vary, there is no hard and fast rule. Some wear beaglers like myself. Others its a flat cap.

Welsh As unless stallions wear white halters depending on their heads it can be fine rope or flat canvas. Best thing to do is look at some photos to see what would suit your pony and as its been shown before there is bound to be a photo of it at a show. Good luck have fun and learn to run as some of these As have a huge stride.
