I have two ponies, both need to be kept on restricted grazing as both could be susceptible to laminitis.

Any tips for keeping them within their field? Currently I have a wooden fence however when I use electric fencing to section the field one will jump over it and the other will push it over!

So far I have wiggled the fencing so the jumper can't get a line and I've taken the rug off the destroyer, this had had some success but any more blocking techniques would be much appreciated!

stupid question - but is the fence on??

i bought some 5 foot posts with electric tape - we stuck it on the mains [not quite full warpfactor to kill him....] but high enough it was a damn good shock...

the youngster used to just hop through the fencing... cost me a bit to do but at least they were all secure... 4 strands of high fencing and on at the mains......?

Sorry, I should have said that!! The fence is on, I have tried to educate them of this by letting them hear it ticking when you leave it lying on the ground this works for a day or two but they soon get back to their old tricks, particularly the destroyer!

I have two strands and three on the jumpers side but any more success stories/advice I would be grateful for!

Is one definitely jumping it or is he stepping over it? If you can hear clicking it may be shorting out somewhere. Have you got a fence tester to check it has a strong pulse all along it?
You can get taller posts for the jumper if necessary but the fence needs to be well tensioned from each side with plenty of posts..the more posts the sturdier the fence.
I would try supplementing their grazing with some soaked hay as maybe they are hungry :)

three strands, 4ft posts and if its a big field and not run off the mains, have the strands separate and use a battery on two strands only, or one battery for one strand and one for two strands, plenty of posts as has been suggested and a tester is really useful. a bit of soaked hay they can pick at will help them feel full if the grass is very short.
