Have been using a Nathe loose ring snaffle for all phases and the boy seems to be going much better than anything else I've tried.
He has a super soft mouth though and he has been getting rubbed/burnt slightly inside his mouth - not the corners of his mouth they are absolutely fine, not cracked or anything - there are just small red patches on the fleshy bits inside his cheeks.

I just wondered if others have experienced this and what they used to help heal/avoid it?
I have heard that Preparation H is good and Bonjella but are these safe to put INSIDE his mouth, esp pre-competition?
Strangely enough it doesn't seem to bother him at all but I'd feel better if the marks weren't there!

It'll heal quite quickly anyway. My mum swears by vaseline

i'd turn the bit round too, make sure the printed words on the plastic bit aren't rubbing him in the same place, they stick out a bit and are quite rough.
this is why i don't use plastic bits any more, they snag on the skin while metal slides over it.

My mare gets a sore mouth and i use Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream, its brilliant, i put it on just before i ride as well as when im grooming to keep her mouth soft-Expensive but it works

kerilli - no need to worry OP is using a Nathe, these have nothing printed on them at all and are very soft (unlike other synthetic bits)

I would use bonjella, as cannot quite bring myself to stick piles cream in a horses mouth (I use to the rule of thumb of what i would be prepared to put in mine!!

Also its L'Oreal thats because "you're worth it". So if horse starts saying that, I really would worry as he's mixed up his brands and Elizabeth Arden is a lot more expensive!!!
