I am going to clip my horse next week and I will be using dormosedan for the first time. Any tips? How difficult is it to get under the tongue? How long does it take to work?

Unless a stallion I would use Sedalin. Found much better results for taking the edge off and don't have to worry about getting it under the tongue.

Only give it when they're calm though or are worse on it! I tend to leave them with the feed and then keep away for them to chill for 50mins or so

Agree its strong stuff. It works just the same as an injected sedative and has the same risks.

Be aware you need to remove food and watch the horse for several hours afterwards.

Our large stressy warmblood took about 3.5 hours for it to wear off.

I wouldn't use it to clip, but then I wouldn't use Sedalin either. Prefer time and patience, not had one yet that did not get used to it eventually.

Fantastic stuff. In a completely different league to Sedalin.

If you are experienced enough to hold the tongue, then that's is what I do. You need to ensure you get the whole dose on the skin under the tongue. Any which goes down the throat is useless. I hold the tongue to one side, then syringe it along under the tonue on the other. If I fail then I will have a 2nd go rather than just squirting it and hoping it goes where it is supposed to. If horse throws head or panic, let o of the tongue as they can hurt it.

Same procedure if you cant hold the tongue though a bit less precise. I'm going to knock my gelding out to clip him this year.

Always wear latex gloves!!

Its strong stuff and works well. About 45mins to an hour later and your horse will be well under.!

Agree, used it for the first time last year with our boy and he was well out! As someone else said you do need to remove food and keep an eye on them for a while after

This ^^^.
Its not at all the same as Sedalin. Dormosedan is as effective as the injected sedation and your vet should have seen the horse recently to ensure it is healthy enough to be given.

It may take three hours or so, to come fully round after.

Absolutely amazing stuff! It took about 45 minutes to kick in on a very quick thinking tb who fights Sedalin and never quite goes under. I think if we prodded her she would have fallen over. :p. but then I think we might have overdosed!
