I am currently riding a 17hh belgium warmblood,5yr old gelding. When he came he was so lazy I could not get him into canter at all. I had his back checked and it turned out that he was out over his lumbar area. Anyway cut a long story short, this horse is up for sale, and he is now going fantastically forward off my leg and he is transformed. Now we have a new problem, I cant get him off my hands! My arms are hanging out of the sockets by the time I am finished. He is currnetly in a neue schule training full cheek, with the lozenge. Any ideas, anybody??? PLEASE. xxx

I am not a dressage buff so have no idea what a neue schule training full cheek is, but why not stick a loose ring snaffle in his mouth and see what happens? It will stop him leaning and he might appreciate a very simple bit?

The training bit just encourages him to accept the bit better, and the lozenge sits flat on his tongue. It did cross my mind yesterday about a loose ring. I cant decide whether he is just being lazy by making me carry him or whether he is tipping onto his forehand because of the backend issue. Will try a loose ring tonight then. ta Has anyone got any exercises to try to get him off my hands and keep his front end up? thanks in advance.x

Ride on the buckle? He can't lean against air
