I've noticed that my mare (only had her a few months) is one that can get quite stressed, in general she is a very laid back mare but sometimes comes in and spooks at everything that she normally see's.

In the school she is fine in general, i took her out the field last night and thought she may misbehave as her field buddies were next door but an absolute star, even had our first canter on grass.

However before i went in the field i took her for a mini hack must have been about 15 mins which included a grass track and road work, she was fine with the traffic but as soon as we leave the yard she becomes almost very nervous that she's left and think everything is out to get her, i try and reasure her and ride as confident as i can, this is then when she is strong aswell, in my eyes trying to get home as quick as possible.

Soooooo any tips guys??

Well done if you got this far!!!!!

You could try a magnesium product good for stressey horses, friend has used one on a nervy TB with good results, Equine American has brought out a new one for about £15 and last 6 months so I'm told,no harm trying is there! Hope that helps!

Thanks very much, i was reding about some stuff like that and wondered if it would work. I'm not sure if she panics cos shes leaving her friends or she feels insecure,

Have you had her long as can take some horses up to a year to settle and it took my cob that, he would bunch up and nap and look for things to spook at, I would ride out in company and take turns letting him go first and last and he is so much better. Do try magnesium my friend used Nomad for example and her horse lacked complete confidence(scared of his own shadow!) he is a very nervy horse, but, now he is so much more better and if she does not give him magnesium, then you can most certainly tell the difference, becomes very edgey and unsettled!

I will try the magnesium, i've only had her 5 months, but i've had her out of work but we're just getting back in to it now, i havn't hacked her out with anyone else yet so i will give that a go aswell, but i don't want her getting to the point where i can only go out with people.

Shes such a silly girlie!"!!

Hi no worries butting in either Nomad by Badminton Feeds Or ask for the Equine Amercian who do the famous 'Cortiflex', this comany now do a magnesium product out this month and as I said last up to 6 months, or Google search the words Horse Magnesium and that should give you companies that do magnesium based products, at the yard I'm at Nomad has been used with great results!
