We have now had 3 incidents of energizers and batteries going missing, once just after christmas when the horses weren't in the fields, (thought it as a one off) second time (horses are now in fields) they took a battery a month or so ago and now I noticed yesterday our energizer and battery has gone from our section!

I am concerned it is the same people keep coming back and what else are they going to take/do and they are going in the fields with the horses which i really dont like.

Is there any way we can put them off/stop this, I know its unlikely as the gates are all padlocked already. I have reported it to the police.

Get a knife and engrave the post code clearly on the top. Try to hide them more carefully. Ours are now on the other side of the field and concealed. It's not convenient at all, very annoying in fact, but we have had three stolen and they're just so expensive to replace. Find an old guinea pig hutch - they're quite useful for hiding them in.

Someone on here a while back suggested getting an old broken energiser and battery and having it visible at the fence, whilst having the working one hidden further away. The would-be thief might take this instead or at least get a shock in the process. Really annoying as it's on the increase in my village, with two gone and batteries in less than 8 months. I had a large metal box made a few years ago to house mine in, big enough to hold 6 large concrete blocks so it couldn't easily be lifted, with holes in the back for the wire connections. It worked for three or four years but unfortunately the hasp I had on it wasn't up to the job and it was sawn through. If you go down this route buy super heavy duty quality hasp & padlock as the thieves will exploit any weakness. I do believe Rutland fencing sell a box that can be electrified, which although expensive, if it works could save you money in the long run. I tend to use my electric fencing stuff for shorter periods of time, bringing it home either during the night or day so it isn't there all the time or only using it when the horses start realising it's not on.

My husband made me a metal security box. It is secured into the ground with a thing like a giant corkscrew and locked obviously. Everything, battery/energiser/earth spike are all contained inside. He says he can make the whole box live if I want... :D
