So - anybody else clipping at the mo?

Or is it just me/my boy.

He's a traditional cob and bless him, is just such a hairy, hot, sweaty boy at the moment.

He's got sweet itch and so has to wear an appropriate rug, which whilst it protects him from the insects, he does tend to get hot underneath it. Tho' even if he hadn't got SI I think I'd probably still have to put something on him to protect him from the sun him coz he's piebald with a lot of white bits on top - and has very pink and sensitive skin underneath it (bless 'im, the gurt woossie:)).

Anyway, the heatwave has been awful for him, so I've made the decision to clip this weekend. I hate clipping, and am hopeless at it, so am getting a friend. We're clipping on Sunday morning........... so, given that it ALWAYS gets colder as soon as you've clipped, I wonder if I can confidently predict some significantly cooler weather starting on Sunday lunchtime'ish onwards???

I'm placing a sportsmans bet of a tenner on the weather getting colder and/or raining (we clipped in the snow once!) - anyone else care to join me? Nice bottle of cooled wine or rack of tinnies to all participants:):):):)

Clipped my warmblood mare about a month ago. Quite a lot came off and her coat is lovely now. So much easier to wash off etc. Other two horses have fine coats so they're ok.

I clipped my hairy to day, I started at 8AM and only just finished in time because he was starting to heat up and get damp.
He has been leaving little puddles from where the sweat as run between his legs and dripped off his sheath.
His tail is so thick he has got ulcerated right in the crease at the top of his dock and has sweat rash lower down :(
With the heat and the flies I do feel sorry for him at the moment- and worse to come next week I think.

Think I'm going to clip my highland this weekend, he has sweet itch and is far too hot in his snuggy hood rug, so been wearing a mesh fly rug still too hot in that and itching like mad. Plus he's come back from loan very very fat and I feel mean working him when he's this hot so hopefully it will help.

Never clipped in summer before though as normally both cope fine and I show so wouldn't any way, but he most likely won't be shown anymore or not till he's thin again.

Yup My native is clipped out all year round, she just over heats and is such a good doer its an ideal way to keep her trim whilst letting her in the field with the others in winter as I full clip and rug less meaning all the hay she stuffs herself with thats put out isnt going on as flubber :o

Right now she was standing in the field sweating badly before being clipped, riding was out of the question :( She was bright and enthusiastic jumping yesterday so Id say better to ahve to pop a rug on if the weather changes than to have them always uncomfy :)

I wish I had thought to do it sooner as fatty desperately needs the excercise but has been too hot and my big guy found schooling really tough going

Yes, I do my hairy boy all year round, but for the first couple of weeks he has to wear his Kool Coat to protect his pink skin from burning. Fortunately, he sweats less with the Kool Coat on, then when he has nothing on, it seems to keep some of the heat out.
