I swear, my horse does it on purpose to get out of work but it seems like every time I've got one thing sorted, something else happens. Usually not severe but I end up losing a week or two.

Since I've gotten her a year ago, she's had -

a sore back from an ill-fitting saddle. Lost 2 months there.

a pulled stifle. Lost 2 weeks.

stone bruising and thrush from a nasty wet winter (couldn't keep back shoes on her because her feet were so saturated, they pulled right off and it resulted in stone bruising even though I tried to keep her off the hard ground). Lost 2 months.

she fell during turnout and scraped up one whole side. Lost a week.

several bites from her neighbor, conveniently located just where the saddle sits. Lost about a week each time.

pulled up lame in her near fore. Lost 2 weeks.

You get the idea. All just silly stuff for the most part but I feel like I spend more time doctoring her than anything else. I used to have Morgans - hardy beasts. This delicate TB is hard to get used to.

My friends JA horse is like this cost her a fortune in vets bills .. well her dad!

First he got kicked so had a months box rest, then got kicked again so another month in ... yes the did turn him out with the kicker again!!

Then he went crazy and kicked out the back wind screen of a car so another 2 weeks off.

Next he cantered up the ramp of the lorry slipped and got his leg trapped between the ramp and side door ... skinned down to the bone, 3 months box rest and bandaged!!

He is currently for sale as she has more sensible jumper - but is even bigger!!

Yes my ridden highland does ive owned her 2 and half years now and in that time we have had
* dmso treatment on front left leg alongside danilon and limited work which increased over 6 month period came sound on leg about 3 months into treatment

* smashed nose open on a sunday had to have vet out to sedate and stitch it back together, then pulled all the stiches out the next day so vet re-did it again. Then after it had all healed up and fine about 3 weeks later came up to find she had re-done it again, this time too late to stich up as not found until 6am. So vet cut that area away and stiched the undamaged bits together and this worked. He called it plastic surgery and called the mare many names as she tried to kill him the whole time he was there even with 4 lots of sedation.

* Then went lame on back end around same time as nose damage and had x-rays vet found spavins so had cartophen injections for them no time off. Day after carthrophen injections she wouldnt / couldnt wee so vet came out did bloods no reasons found other than she was no anemic.

* Lameness started again in Oct so she had a bone scan and found a few heat spots on right hock. So had wedge shoes on and injection into hocks. Had 3 days box rest then limited turn out.

* Day of her being turned out she had fight with another mare so needed vet out and stiches. This was on the right hock as well. So she should have been in very light work at this time however she was lame from kick had to live out as hock around 3 times its normal size. So ended up with 3 weeks off work.

* All over dec she stopped eating and started again, really off colour and un-happy. Had some viral infections and bloods found liver damage. Plus still anemic. Also found out she had gastric ulcers so on gastrogard for 2 months.

* New years eve she got into a fight with another mare so more cuts etc couldnt treat them as she wasnt aloud any pain relief or drugs due to liver risks.

* Then in march she had tildren treatment and had colic 3 times in the space of 2 days.

* Moved yards in Marchm week after her colic and turned her out for the first time she managed to fall over hard and make herself lame again. So vet out danilon and another week off work. Also went lami at that time so kept in for a week.

* Then she freaked out at yard and no one knows what happened really but she broke the stable door and got out, then had some sort of epeletic type fit. So moved her to own place.

* Last month she had a fall when i was riding her and was lame for over a month had a week off work and worked on danilon. Only came sound this week.

Kind of a joke with vet and people who know her what will she have next.

Yes....
we knew Kelly was lami-prone.
But when Pebbles came on the scene and she had a sarcoid it was like Kelly had to better it!! So she went lame (for no reason that we could find).
Got Pebbles sorted, then Kelly came sound.
Over the course of the next few months we found little things like dust allergies, hay allergies with Pebbles...Kelly went lame and came sound on every foot one at a time.
Vets couldn't find anything!
Since then we've had;
- dust allergy with her
- lami brought on by...
- seizures - no cause found
- wind galls
- various bites and kicks to the pair of them

What are they like?!?!

oh my goodness do I know you guys feel! And I am so sorry for what some of you have been through with your horses, it does get to seem never ending doesn't it?

Let's see if I can even remember all the things my horse has had since we got her:

2007-2008
5x hoof abscesses (in different feet except for 2 on the off hind)
4x mysterious injuries to legs (one serious required 3 months yard rest)
2x eye infections
1x colic scare (thank God only a scare!)
1x swelling/heat in rear pastern area-cause unknown
1x impacted tooth (or something like that)

2009
1x injury to fetlock caused by stepping on herself
bruised knee
1x hoof abscess
1x case of hives -cause unknown

2010
1x puncture wound to sole of foot
1x injury to fetlock caused by stepping on herself
1x hoof abscess
1x eye infection
1x cut to leg
1x chiropractic issue- dropped/rotated pelvis
4x under-run heels

When my horse was younger he was prone to injuring himself, even in the stable he would find a way.
I have found with age that he injures himself rarely, when before it was on a regular basis, I even remeber finding something new everyday at one stage.
