Anybody else having problems selling their horse at the moment?

A lot of horses are over-priced atm.
The ones which seem to be selling fastest are reasonably priced for what they have done. Most people don't want 'potential', they want to see a record, unless they are buying youngsters - and they certainly aren't interested in the potential of a 14 yr old.

I sell horses as my job. There are people out there that are still buying, but they are wanting much more from the horse in the way of experience for thier money. For instance I have just sold a stunning 16.2hh 5yr old mare-established on the flat and fab jump(alittle green) hacks and 100% to handle in every way £2500 with a new falcon saddle, bridle and a handfull of rugs. 3 years ago she would have been at least 4k!!
I really enjoy my job as I get to ride some really nice horses and meet so many nice genuine people who really are looking for the right horse. However, the strange, rude, timewasters, joy riders and folk who do not recognise thier own capabilities does test my patience sometimes.
Seller's dont dispair!!!
P.s I have some relly nice horses in at the moment if anyone is looking!!- You cant blame a girl for trying!!!!

I am now worried as I am just about to start marketing my horses (8) for sale due to a heart problem and I am going to have to give up. Not at all sure where to start. Do not want that much for them but don't want to give them away. One of them a 4 year old unbacked coloured chunky would almost give away to the right home as she has a parrot mouth but is the sweetest horse I have owned in 40 years. After reading all coments on here think I will start with H&H on line first. Trouble is if I price them for what I think they are worth in this market some people think there is something wrong with them.

i,ve just sold my cob mare , been there done that got the t shirt for £4.500 to first person that viewed her , i,ve had loads more enquiries from horsemart over the last month

I think there should be a ban on breeding animals.
There are so many unwanted animals, lots in rescue centres, lots needing to be rescued.

A horse / dog fit for purpose at the right price will sell, even on this financial market.

Why breed more?

tbh atm I'm having the problem of finding something appearing perfect falling in love then to inquire and to be told they got snapped up the day before! ahhh </3

I've had 20+ phone calls, 3 viewings arranged and didn't turn up with no phone call or text to prevent me wasting my time, 1 viewing but not suitable. Am being very honest as horse is quirky, which is more than can be said for the people we purchased from. OH has lost his Job so we are thinking of sending him to a dealer who has offered us £500, a massive loss to us but we a desperate and I'm fed up of being messed around! I will never buy another horse again after this!!!

I advertised our boy in the spring, and am about to do so again. People want the comp record but to not pay more than 4.5K for it. Maybe I am pricing him wrongly, but he has won £99 not, £279 act over the winter, does a lovely BD nov. test and has been placed at BE but is not consistent XC so we have decided not to push this. He has qualified for the 1m Am Champs and yesterday came 2nd in the Intermediate PC Area SJ, qualifying for the Nat. Champs. He has won the 3 WH's he's done too. Personally I don't think that is a 4.5k horse!

luckily we only have one left but i feel sorry for him as 13 weeks old now :( he really needs to bond with someone !

Ill have him!!! Mum wants a new dalmation?!?!

Struggling to sell my boy aswell. He was vetted the other day and the vet passes him, but because his "shoeing isnt very good" and the vet couldnt tell whether he had crap feet or i had a bad farrier, the woman decided she wasnt going to have him?!. This woman was supposedly a very experienced horse woman. I had shown her his feet before, explained what happened (he lost a shoe and took a bit of his foot with it about 3 months ago, and although not lame had to have it filled, so looks a bit of a mess). What a waste of my time and the vets?! She left knowing nothing other than what she came with. Every inch of him is fine. I understand her concerns and probably wouldnt buy a horse with a dodgy looking foot, but, he is priced accordingly, and she already knew about the problem. So why get the bloody vet out. Money to burn. Honeslty!!

Why didnt she just walk away in the first place?!

I'm having trouble selling mine at the moment, but what really bugs me is when people come and view and say they will call you after a think, but they never do! Would be nice for them to at least give us some feed back after scrubbing, trimming and polishing for hours before they came! Or people who email you about the horse, and you reply, and they don't bother to reply back..it's really quite rude.

We have 3 to sell on our yard. One of which will never sell for the price the owner wants but that's fine by us as we love her. The other 2 we are desperate to sell and have dropped the prices dramatically but still nothing :(

i can't find one to buy....................i get to see the horse in the flesh and it has shrunk a hand, or a splint has come up over night or suddenly it dishes............all i want is something about 15.3-16hh when mature, i am looking for a chunky youngster, mare, filly or gelding between 2-4, with clean legs and a sensibile head.

no i don't want to see a 3yr old that is only 13.2, yep it was that small when i went to see it and was meant to be about 15hh and 2, but when i read the passport and did some maths it had aged and shrunk

and breath babyish rant over :)

Hands up here :( I am trying to sell my 7 year old mare - she is a sensitive type but with the right rider gives 110% but as soon as I mention she needs a quiet rider people run a mile but I feel I cant just let people come and see her without disclosing this fact. Its such a shame as with a bit more work she could be really smart on the flat and the jumping is just green as she is incredibly low mileage. I have asked the 'professionals' that I know and they have said that the price is in the bracket they would have put her in so dont really know where to go from here as she does need to go.
