But we have a welsh cob, gypsy vanner cob, haflinger and a connemara x TB so only one fineish one xD. They're out 24/7 atm

My share horse is rugged, but is still out 24/7 and it is beacause he feels the cold and looses alot of weight. His field mate isnt rugged at all and out 24/7 still with no probs

none of mine are rugged and prob wont be to be honest. they have trees and a field shelter (with bedding in) if it gets bad so unless i end up clipping they will be allowed to get very hairy!

My little pony isn't!
If she looks cold I will but I want her just to be a bit tougher and her winter coat to come through properly and I don't want to rug up for the sake of it.
She has now started coming in at night and has extra food as she is an old girl and her digestive system isn't great so I'm feeding her up and she looks great.
Last winter she went through winter without one at all and looked fab all the way through and I didn't see her shiver once, but her age is catching up with her now.
If your horse is cold rug it up if its not don't bother!

IN??

RUGGED???

What on earth for??

its currently 12plus degrees......they would be SO uncomfortable.....

as i said in an earlier post..they are NOT made of icing sugar..they won't melt...Honestly!!!!

I have held off rugging quite a bit. He had it on the other night because it was -1 (I had to scrape the ice off the car!), and if its been pouring down and cold. But it has been pretty mild really.

When it's due to rain hes in a lightweight and if its not then hes always in his fly rug - last week one night reached minus 2degrees! He will be coming in for the night next week when i move up to nottingham (yard rules) and will probably wear his thermatex or waffle depending on how cold it is.

Horses at work are in middlewieghts tonight!! Think I'm going to have sweaty horses in the morning!

Me ! 3 hairy cobs, won't be rugged until the working ones are clipped..........or until it starts to rain and I get fed up with scraping the mud off !

Yeah a few of the horses at my yard have there thick winter rugs on with hoods.

Mine has his thin run on at the moment, only reason I ride him every day and he sooooooooooo hairy!
He is now clipped so could not leave him out with no PJs on

!

His hood etc will not go on until it gets really cold.

OMG No! It's 26C here today.

Is it cold and wet in the UK? Come to think of it when I spoke to my brother earlier he made some derogatory comment about me mentioning the weather

If I was in the UK, no doubt my wimpy boy woud have been rugged by now.

Mr T must be poof then as he's had his medium on at night for the last two weeks. I think he feels the cold more as up until last winter he was barn kept all winter and never wore a rug or grew a winter coat as the barn was very warm (it was used to store farmer's hay!). Last winter he grew no coat as he had never had to before and lost loads of weight and was cold in two heavyweights. This year he's started to grow his coat already in preparation. He's out 24/7 and I have no intention of bringing him in at night until the end of October when I have to due to livery yard restrictions.

I've had lightweights on a night for a while now, and my TB mare has hardly had her lightweight off at all. Tonight she is in with her lightweight stable rug on and was out in her med weight this morning, and other one still out 24/7 in lightweight.
My old boy (39) is in with a fleece rug on, but has his lightweight on during the day while he's out..

I admit I've rugged up tonight but only because its dropping to 4 degrees and my TB has the finest coat ever and loses weight very easily. Rugs are off in the day though - its still mild enough. I work by the principle that if it drops less than 8 degres overnight I rug up.

i have a welsh A and a Cob X, i have been naughty and put rugs on, but it has been freezing and wet in cornwall for the last 2 days, my little 1 shivvers so i cant let him freeze cos he WOULD melt!!LOL,i cant put on one without the other.

*slaps wrists!*

Both horses rugged one in medium weight combo the other in sheet with fleece under. But its been wet cold and windy up here and the field has no shelter.

My two are out all the time and naked. My TB is well covered and growing a nice coat and the cob is beginning to resemble a woolly mammoth but neither will be rugged until they are clipped

On my defence they dont have any shelter, they did have big gaus bushes but they've been cut down, they only have a bit of chaff each ATM, until it comes in worse then they have sugar-beet and cool mix too.
