I have only had my horse for a few months and have discovered she likes to groan - in the stable occasionally then clears her nose. More so out riding ,to the point of -is she gonna keel over in a minute !? Or i hope no one passes us ! Seems happy to be ridden though. Anyone have any experience of this ?

My old Tb mare would groan if she saw a hill out hacking.. she knew we'd be trotting up it! She would grunt all the way up... hilarious if my OH joined us with his horse with the "oinky" sheath. They did it in harmony to the beat of "two little boys" and we'd often singalong too! :)

My TB always started chuntering quietly when I made him work out hacking or wouldn't let him gallop-I always said he was swearing at me under his breath :-)

Yes my old boy did this! The scientist in me says it's just wind... but how can he have wind every time we turn to go the long way round??

Yes, my huge young WB stallion groans all the time, when he is pooing, cantering, jumping. I asked various vets, an osteo and a chiro about this and they all told me not to worry. The osteo in particular was very helpful, he said "Well, he is a man, we like to grunt and groan, what can you expect!" :p ;)

My 5 year old cob chunters like this! Makes me laugh as sounds so funny! Nothing wrong with her I think she just likes the noise.

Yes my CB mare does it sometimes out hacking, no reason I can see other than she just likes to. And the WB youngster does it when he's about to be silly.

My gelding groans when pooing and he also does a big dog leg stretch as he comes out the stable with a long groan too, if your grooming and hit a sweet spot he usually moans tilts his head and hangs his tongue out hes very dog like in his affections lol, i take all of his funny noises to be pleasureable
