My two horses insist on eating their own dinner as fast as they can and then 'share' whoever still has some left

It's not good as they are on different dinners. I wish they would just eat their own!

In all seriousness it doesn't often happen as mostly they finish at the same time or I have to fend Darcy off the little ones bucket as he hasn't quite learnt how to stand up for himself but when they do end up eating out of one bucket they just wedge their heads in and get on with it. Sometimes Darcy will snarl at Taz if he's being cross about it which is fair enough. Taz needs to learn it's not what you do!

Anyone else's horses like this?

awww how sweet!!

nope our big girl chases silly arab off and thats that! however she seems to be objecting to something in her dinners at the mo, working on a trial & error basis to work out what, silly arab has however clocked this and is busy getting his own back!!!

Aww - thats sweet! no mine would rather kill each other rather than share their food - greedy so & so's! My cob will allow my wb to lick her bowl when she has finished - is a good dishwasher!!

PS Gingernut - if you think those legas are muddy you should see the 8 legs in my stables tonight :-(

They look very sweet! If my boy is tied up outside the stable his friend will get a mouthful of haylage and bring it to the door & share it..they literally take the hay out of each others mouths in a very gentle way!

Yes my two do. Rocco the younger used to try and push into Bianca's tea when they were turned out full time. Occasionally she would just wander off and let him but mostly they'd carry on eating from the same bucket.

Errrm yes, Julie and Breeze insist on trying to get their fat heads in the same bucket at the same time... I think they will get stuck one day!!

I think its good in a way because alot of horses would fight or squabble, I think it shows they are happy together and happy to share their mum, her time and the food she gives them

If I have to I will add more chaff to the one that eats quickest so they take longer, i found that worked when killarney would finish quickly and then start leaning over the fence nicking one of the girls for the next fields dinner!

That was the way I got round Darcy finishing before Taz except tonight Taz finished first so launched himself into Darcy's bucket.

Darcy has three times as much chaff as Taz and mostly finishes at the same time!

little monkey!

Yup! 3 mini shetlands and my old loan pony who was 14'2 all used to share a feed bowl, when crys had finished hers she went over tot he shetlands, no aguments, crystal wouldnt only scare them off if she was really hungry

They also used to share a stable on fireworks night as we had no alternative, she was like their mum

we took ours on B&B holiday in the summer and left them in a small paddock with the 2 stable doors open while we went for dinner, came back to find them in the same stable sharing a haynet!
I do have a picture but no idea how to upload it!

I was posting about my boy being horrid around feed the other day. What's strange is that, out of a field of 22 horses, Monty is top of the pecking order and Zoom is mega bottom. Yet every night she finishes her dinner and steals his. Any other horse he would kill but with her he just looks helplessly at me. Very bizzare since he is 17hh and she is 14.3hh with one eye.............but kind of sweet. He loves his little sis!

The Black and White cob mare will share her feed with her pet sheep, she will also share the sheeps bucket if given a chance, they take it in turns to eat a mouthful each. They also share their hay, which is fed on the floor. The cob uses the sheep as a handy table to rest her hay on

Yes mine all do it, however that's because they are all used to feeding from one another as I run them in herds and feed them their hard feed on the ground. They share hay as well as they are fed out of huge hay feeders so it is normal for them to share all types of feed.

Cute piccies though

Rosie's mother told her to chew her food 20 times before swallowing.

When she returns to her bucket for the next mouthful, she finds most of it gone...and a hairy pony walking off licking their lips!

Our are out in one big herd too and get ad lib haylage (sp?) from round feeders too

That might explain it a little!

My two will if I feed in the field. I just make sure Jim's feed, that has supplements in, is smaller than Little Un's. If Jim is hungry then he tends to move LU on rather than share but normally they share quite happily.
