did anybody go to wigton horse auctions today? i was disgusted at the state of the horses. the rspca werent there and when the police finally came all the horses had nearly went. they were underweight and their condition was appalling, some were even scared of the people selling them. 90% of the horses should of been removed but they only seem to care about the money. obviously there is a few who are genuine which i understand.whats other peoples opinions? horses were selling for about £50 i was crying it was that bad. dont you think that all auctions should at least have the rspca there?

Sadly no Trading Stds Animal Health Officer which seemed to please the market staff--it did not please me!!

Agree some of the coloureds looked like they had just climbed out of the muck heap.

A few nice horses there--clearly not selling privately.
Also some of the dealers just use it to make contacts and rarely sell, they prefer clients to try properly at their yard.

Did you see the 2 youngsters who were shod?
One tied to a small lorry in the yard and the other in the end pen of the loading bay also had full set of baby teeth.

Our wonderful pony Meg went through Wigton several years ago. A freak turn of fate meant the girl we bought her off bid and won. Knowing what she is like to ride, it's a wonder she wasn't made into pies.

We turned her into a superstar, but she's still a law unto herself.
 
your right it was terrible. there were some lovely horses which to my suprise didnt get sold ( or at least most) but i had to walk out i couldnt stand it. they care about the money not the horse. the next auction im going to go and if its as bad as last time ill be ringing the rspca

The RSPCA are most definitely unwelcome at these sales, their presence creates a VERY unfriendly atmosphere amongst certain sellers.
Animal Health Officers from the Council Trading Stds usually attend and go about their job quietly and calmly only 'wading in'' when clear breaches of welfare/cruelty/transport occur.
However they were not present on Saturday.

I was pleased with the Auctioneer who did not mince his words at rough handling which caused one youngster to fall over in the chute leading to the ring.
 
I am totally shocked at not only the poor wee thing being shod & driven but him advertising it on dragon driving.. Good god humans are evil creatures
 
This so called "dealer" should be reported to the RSPCA, his location and numbers are on DD, he is an absolute disgrace and should not be allowed to carry on trading in this manner.

Please do-- but as Lannerch says he is breaking no law
A check on welfare standards at his yard is all they can do
 
you do not have to break the law to be reported for animal cruelty...you are simply inhumane and cruel to the animal concerned

driven 20 times!!! shod as a yearling...disgusting and cruel...probaly all for what a few hundred pounds profit..it that

I do not disagree with you--I hate to see youngsters broken to ride or drive before their bones are strong enough
I have complained frequently at sales--you are too heavy etc

I cannot say on an open forum my thoughts about this dealer, I know what he looks like and he would recognise me
