Just wondering if it's worthwhile? I'm thinking of setting something up for the yard I'm on, out of curiosity really as none of us have many feed related issues. I want to get mine weighed accurately more than anything else! I know it's probably just an opportunity for them to sell us stuff.

Does anybody know of any other companies that offer anything similar?

I have Isabel, the Spillers nutritionist out to our yard twice a year. I set the first one up because I wanted to have my horse weighed accurately (my weigh tape turned out to be approx 90kgs on the light side!). Since the first visit I have arranged subsequent visits twice a year, normally March and October.

Isabel will recommend a Spillers product, but does not force feed you with her company's stuff (though you do get some money off vouchers).

Yard visits need to be a minimum of around 10 horses for a weekday visit, and 25 for a weekend one.

I find it all very informative and a lot of fun!

Dengie are better.

The lady from spillers told me she left her 17hh horse with 3kg of hay to last it from 7pm til 7am....

Isabel from spillers did a talk the other day at the careers day i went to. She sounded very knowledgeable but also very busy!

I took my horse to a Dengie weight clinic the other week. It was very good, weighed horses on weigh scales and used weight tape so you could compare. Nutritionists was good, talked about alot of stuff but also didn't ram Dengie feeds at you. Also gave me quite a few freebie samples!

The coursera equine nutrition course is good and free. I'd be wary of a specific feed company specialist providing advice especially as they sell hard feed and the bulk of a horses diet should come from appropriate forage sources. Trailering to a weigh bridge is an option for weight check. That said its always useful to listen to what people say even if it raises questions or bits you not so sure on. What about getting Claire Mcloed out? She's an independent nutritionist and could do a half day lecture or something.

Best wishes
Hannah

Yes Allen&Page have always come with scales and they just need a flat surface, concrete is best if possible.

I can't tell you how impressed we've been with them xx

Yes we had the Spillers lady , weighed all the horses looked at diet explained how balancers worked verses a mineral and vit supp.
Talked about making sure forage feed horses got enough protein when in work all sensible good advice she did not try to push Spillers products too much it was well worth it .
