We bought Ace from Walton, Cheshire. We were complete novices and he was sold to us as a novice ride. Unfortunately it turned out that he was drugged and was in actual fact a loony!! We bought him on the 14th of August 2000 and he was ROUGHLY 7 years old. He was about 16hh and had white scarring (?) on his withers (bad saddle??).

We part-exchanged him 4 weeks later to a dealer called Linda in Lymm, Cheshire. Ace had lameness issues in his foreleg(s) and constantly lost his front shoes. He rodeoed in canter and attacked our YO in the field! He was apparently sold to a riding school in blackpool and re-schooled. He's a possible ex-racer, but we're not sure.
Would love to know how he's doing now.

Please contact me if you recognise him!

Many thanks.

Lou.

Hi
I am in the Blackpool area. If you like i can foward you the numbers of the local riding schools so you could maybe try calling them? We havent got that many riding schools around here now but it may be worth a try?

Do you know his racing name? You could try the ex-racers forum?

Have your tried the TRC/ROR/Heros etc, if he's an ex-racer he may have ended up in their hands?

Good Luck

I wish i did, but i havent got a clue! Not even sure if he IS a ex-racer - just suspected it because of the lameness issues, his legs & his behaviour.

He wasnt sold with any papers or anything. People who sold him to us were VERY dodgy!!

Thank you though. Will try that forum anyway!

Same thing happened to me, I bought a TB from a dealer in Cheshire, didnt know they were dealers at the time. Elsa was my first horse after a long break from horses, she was so calm infact I should have seen the warning signs that she was drugged especially when she was hit hard on her chest for no apparant reason, think she was that out of it and they wanted to wake her up! She was so quiet, couldnt get her to canter and we bought her but when she arrived she was a looney, I stuck with her for 18 mths and sold her to a dealer as it had got to the stage that I wouldnt get on her and I didnt want anyone else to buy her for their teenager or sommat. She was probably an ex racer too and how I now feel guilty as she was so misunderstood. Poor girl, I just hope she ended up in an experienced home as she was so sweet just a nutter!

Thanks guys! I also feel guilty that we couldnt 'fix' him, but he was just too much horse for us. I think we could cope with him now, but we certainly couldnt then! After he'd rodeoed me off and broken my arm, we contacted an ex-jockey and asked him to come & ride him for us & give us his honest opinion. He bucked & broncoed with him, but he stayed on (good job because he'd refused to wear a hat!!) The jockey thought he was fab, but said he was no way a novice ride.

A couple of days later, the YO rang us & said Ace had cornered her in the field and kicked the cr*p out of her! She said she was really sorry but she didnt want him on her yard any more. My mum had made her mind up by then though and we decided to find something else. We'd bought Ace for £1750 and when we part-ex'd him, the dealer gave us £200 for him!

We could have probably got our money back if we'd have drugged him up again, but i dont know how people can live with themselves after doing that.

I just hope that he went on to someone who could understand him.

Thank you so much luckilotti - that will certainly keep me busy!

What a coincidence, I got £200 too when I sold her to a dealer. I was sad to see her go as she was lovely but also so releived as my confidence was wrecked.

jeeeez !!!
i didnt realise dealers gave so little for horses the part ex etc!!!
I hate to add Smirnoff_ice - last night led in bed - i thought of another riding school that would have been open around that time - but again - its no-longer there. From memory - they didnt buy and sell much anyway.
Whats reallllllllly annoying me is that - i seem to recognise him! but i cant place it at all.

oooo - sugar - sat here typing - thought of another riding school that was open then - veryyyyyyy doubtful thou they would have had him as they pretty much stuck with what they had as they had very few facilities and not many horses could have coped there!
