anybody NOT feeding hay yet??

I've had to muzzle for the last two days. Stupidly tookdown fencing to give them rest of the field when we were getting hard frosts. Naturally it became mild fromt that afternoon. Thinking I might put the fence back up, today!

Yep, basically donkeys started to shout constantly when hungry and Billy tries to eat every morsel of grass on our way back from field :p

They are getting roughly a bale a day between the 3 of them and are out on approx 5-6 acre field which has been well eaten down as have been on it since mid sept. Still holding their weights (although donkeys could afford to loose a few lbs!) but definitely need the hay.

I've still got tons of grass. To be honest it's been so mild here that I'm sure it's still growing.

I've started giving hay in the mornings instead of moving the leccy fencing over for them as they are all looking a little tubby!

My mare has a haynet in her stable and she comes in for a few hours in the day. A net is lasting 7 to 10 days at the moment. No hay in field but still lots of grass (8 horses on 20+acres). She does get grass nuts as a mash. Horses on more restricted grazing are having hay and eating it slowly.

Grass still really growing here. Put the girls in new field five and a half weeks ago, total of 6 acres and they wee strip grazed from tiny patch as the grass was so lush. When they settled on it i opened it out to 3 acres so they have loads of grass and what they have already eaten down is growing back. Brown bits have gone green again. I'm having a big round bale of hay put in on Thursday before the cold snap just to give them a choice but they don't really need it. They have so much grass i could probably get through the winter fine without hay, but i do like them to have it when it is bitterly cold/snowy. No hard feed for either and they look fab. I'll be surprised if they do more than pick at the hay!!!

Hay? Mines still got his grazing muzzle on as lots of grass and he is fat! Took it off for a few days and thought he would burst!!
