My boy is on straw and tends to eat it. Shavings are not a good option for him, so was wondering about cardboard bedding.

Has anyone used it and how muh does it cost per bale?

Thanks

I used it and hated it!!

I was using on top of rubber matting and just found that it wasn't at all absorbant and a pain to muck out.

I currently use shavings which you say aren't an option for you. A friend of mine uses a product called megasorb and she loves it. she changed from shavings/easibed to the yard in megasorb. Might be worth a look?

yep, i use it in all my stables, have done for about 10 years. I wouldn't have anything else. I use Ecobed, which I have always found very absorbent, on top of rubber matting. It's cleaner than shavings (doesn't break down to dust with use, unlike shavings and a lot of other types of bedding), the print doesn't come off (unlike paper bedding), it's very easy to muck out and keep immaculately clean, it's lovely and warm for them, and it's proven to produce a lot less dust particles, mould spores etc in the air. Have a look at the scientific stuff on their website if you want. It takes me 4 minutes for a full muck-out, per stable.
It costs the same as shavings, more or less, just under £5 a bale. Minimum order is 2 pallets iirc, which is 56 bales. If you want to try it, PM me, and I'll prob be able to persuade them to do just 1 pallet.

I agree. it just dosen't work. I found it expensive, goes no where and not at all absorbent. There are better alternatives to straw.

i used it for a good few years (same problem with eating straw) i found it very good! only stoped using it when the straw eating horses left and then went bak 2 straw!

That was my experience! I have rubber mats, but 2 bales of cardboard bedding went nowhere - and next day needed another bale and STILL looked skimpy! One bale of paper bedding looks more generous, lasts longer and is more absorbent. I have all mine on paper now - it has its drawbacks - but I've found nothing better!

dont no about cardboard but someone on my yard has paper on top of rubber matting and finds it brilliant!
my horse is on straw and he was eating it, so know i just put new straw down before i put the old on, then i put the old on top and he doesn't eat it!
