You've got it right except it's 1 over 81 in the last line, not 1 over 8. But the answer is right.

Which bit do you not understand. I have an A Level in Maths and did economics (a lot of maths) at uni...

well when you do 64^2/3,

you take the denominator and do the root of that,
so if it was 64^1/2
it would be the square root of 64, to the power of 1.

which makes it the cubed (third) root of 64, to the power of 2 (squared).

with negatives powers, so if it was 3^-1,
it would be 1/3 to the power of 1, so just 1/3

as it's 3^-4,
it's 1/3to the power of 4
so 1/81

hope that helps?

OK

If x is to the power of 2/3..... The means you first square x, and then cube route it to 3? Do you understand that?

x to the -4?? If it has a - that just means put it over one and put the x to the power of 4..... Does that make any sense at all?

Ok, I'll do the left bit first

64 to the power of (2/3) is the same as
(64 to the power of 1/3) to the power of 2

but 64 to the power of 1/3 is the cube root of 64, which is shown on the second line of your working.

now on a calculator you can claculate this as 4
but if you think about it, 4*4*4 = 64 so it's easy to work out anyway

so now we have 4 to the power of 2 left which is 4 squared, which is 4*4=16.

So the left bit resolves to 16.

Do you understand so far?

Thankyou all soooooooo much , I think I understand now .
Just let me check
So
you do 64 cube root =4 the square it (ans)2 to make 16 ?

Yes, apart from the last line. You times across the line, not add.

You can do it. Go to bed now. Have confidence. Take a deep breath before every question. Do each one slowly, especially the end of each answer so you don't make silly mistakes. (not meant to be condescending, but I know what it's like when you think you've sloved it!) If one is not going right, move on and come back later. Keep calm.

Thankyou so much , I know , I make silly mistakes when I rush and panic so will be checking over and over and over again
