I know this isnt horsey but i am sooo scared :o and just wanted to ask something....
Basically of two the docters later to have a spirometry test done, because my docter thinks i am asthmatic, now i always have had a really chesty cough and get breathless really easily and find it hard to catch my breath i sometimes will like make a whistling sound but never will have a wheeze, i dont think i am asthmatic to be honest, when i breath out hard i will rasp,

Im only 18 and resonably fit, do swimming etc sport at college only time i have like had a proper attack where i cannot breath and thought i was going to pass out was when i did the bleep test. LOL,

I know a few things about the spirometry test but surely if i had asthma it would come up on the peak flow and i can blow a really good peak flow, 410?

Ahh well pointless me probally posting this, but should i really be worried about it? anyone done it? :( ahhhhh!!!!

Healthy asthmatics should be able to blow a pretty normal peak flow, loads of people are diagnosed as asthmatic and are fitter, healthier and with a better peak flow than non-asthmatics!! :)

I wouldn't worry about the spirometry, it will just help get a proper diagnosis for you so you can manage the symptoms you've got or get the appropriate meds. Good luck! :)

I'm asthmatic and my peak flow is perfect.

However, I have days when I get wheezy and can't breath too good.

It will be discussed with your doctor what is the best form of asthma management. I don't use my puffers unless I have problems, and that works for me. They may feel you need to take them regularly.

Can't really say any more without your test results though! Good luck!

Don't be scared, spirometry is designed to find the problem and manage it, your practice nurse will reassure you and hold your hand through it all. Good luck.

My husbands asthmatic and his peak flow reading is extremely high, over a third higher than mine. Please do not worry yourself, there are so many medications available - preventative aswell as relievers, and most surgeries have an asthma nurse who specialises in the condition. You'll be fine, my husband has a much greater stamina than me and is physically healthy.:)

Well had my spirometry test done and apparently all is normal?? =-/, i have to go back and see my doctor next wednesday to speak with him to decide what treatment and that, the nurse said he will probally give me a inhaler, i think it is allergies though :(, we will see what the doctor says thanks for all the advice guys :( xx

Wondered how you got on.....

Kind of good news but pants too :( Hope you get a decent answer soon :) xx

Ahh thankyou :), now i just have to hope i dont die in the next week :P, ahahhaha sure it will be okay, we will see what doc says next wed, :), x

Just wanted to tell you not to worry about it too much, I know it's worse when you've no idea what it could be, hope you get an answer soon.
Just for info, i've got a rare lung disorder similar to cystic fybrosis (plus all my insides are the wrong way round but that's another story!) and my peak flow two weeks ago was 470....!!

my grandaughter had a cough and occasionally weezed for a long period of time, when she came to live with me and I realised just how bad she was (but not asthmatic) I got her some antihistamine medicine and then the doctor prescribed her some because it had worked and she hasn't really coughed since. She only took it for a few weeks but the cough has never come back. May be worth a try to see if it is allergies causing the problem.

I have tried like piriton, and that only seems to help with the hay fever, i am scared off being put on anti histomenes though incase i put on weight? cuz they are steroids i am led to believe lol?

Anti-histamines aren't steroids but you can use steroids to treat allergies :)

Take lots of hot showers and baths - or go to a spa and sit in a steam room for a while - will help open your airways :)

and whilst you're at the spa, get Mum to treat you to a back/neck/shoulder massage (to move any fluid loosened by the steam) and a manicure and pedicure (being ill is emotionally draining, you need cheering up) ;) :D

;), lol i will get my freind to do it instead :p, mum wont come swimming with me so will have to go and do it after the swimming pool :p, and drag a freind along, MAN this is when men come in handy ;) hahahahah
