I am SO jealous of those of you with indoor schools right now. Haven't managed to ride since friday, and before then not since the first batch of snow. At this rate, we won't be back in the saddle until March!!

How is everyone coping with the snow?

*prepares to have rotten veg thrown at her*

I went for a ride yesterday :) we've got no snow, there's usually a little bit of ice in morning but is thawed out by mid morning!

Yep our schooling area is useable if harrowed every morning and we have stubble fields next door that we can ride in so we havent missed a day so far.

Riding in the snow in the woods - magic - moonlight ride this evening! Saw deer close up.

Nice canter back along the tracks.

But then we're barefoot so the snow doesn't bother us. ;)

Yes, lucky enough to have a small indoor at the yard. However you can't jump in there and I'm dying to test drive her, so hopefully this cold spell goes soon. Can't really complain though, indoor schools are such a saviour this time of year, at least riding is guaranteed.

Nope, havn't ridden in 3 weeks, just had him riding quietly in trot,(He's a baby). and then this weather strikes, sheet of ice outside the stables, so cant even put then out into the field. Superglue will be required by the time i get back in the saddle, me thinks!!!!

I last rode on November 22nd, and there hasn't been a day since that its been safe to ride.
No one at my yard has since then and there are about 50 horses in total, so I'm not been over cautious.
We're up in Dundee, just about every day since the snow started, the ground has been frozen solid, the original snow thats now a month old hasn't thawed and is just a sheet of ice and we've just had more snow on top!!
Further forecasts of yet more freezing weather and we've all written off any idea of riding until the new year.

Am thoroughly fed up of it now, last year it was a month we couldn't ride, this year we're going to be 2 months and possibly more.

The horses that live out are happy as larry, got cosy rugs and a constant supply of haylage, but the stabled lot are grumpy and miserable as its hit and miss if they can be turned out each day :(

Am now praying for a thaw, can't wait to ride again, but also can as my lad is only 4 and was backed in the spring - velcro pants will be needed :D

It started snowing on Friday. We now have 6 to 8 inches of snow in all the fields and 2 inches of compact snow / ice on all the roads.

Game over until it melts.....eventually.

Nope, luckily my boy's basics are done for me but I haven't been able to get down there since Saturday as I have a stupid car and the journey there is all back roads.

Thank god for all year round turnout and yard grooms!!!!!
: o )

I havent ridden in 4 weeks :( Its far too icy, we had a foot of snow in the arena for 2 weeks there and now its like an ice rink. At least he is getting a few hours turnout at the moment but anymore than that and they are at the gate looking miserable. I hate winter

I think i've ridden about 4 times in about 6 weeks  getting so angry  I haven't even been to the stables for 10 days as I cant get there  dw he is on full livery and the YO has a big 4x4 tht goes through anything ! Damn my stupid mini :(

I havent been able to ride since Friday, it doesn't look like I will be ridding till it thaws out. Our school isnt frozen but there feet pack up with snow every couple of steps. I took him for a in hand walk across the snow yesterday which is as close to riding i'm going to get.

I managed a hack out last Saturday afternoon although in places there was still a little ice so didn't bother on the Sunday, last time I was on his back was 4-5 weeks ago (due to the snow then freezing ice) he was good lad too, I was rather suprised, no chance of getting in the school now,it's rock solid. :(

In 4 weeks I have managed a hack last saturday when it had a mini-thaw, followed by Tuesday night at an RC rally before snow came back with a vengeance. I am off work now for xmas and we have sheet ice under snow, solid concrete ground so can't even ride in fields. Now all our water taps have frozen!
I have given up. Horse is now totally unfit and clip is growing back in this perishing cold so he can have some time off til it thaws. I am gutted cos we were all set for winter dressage, RC indoor winter shows, our first ever hunt, now there's no chance of that cos it's too icy to take the trailer anywhere and by the time it thaws he'll be totally unfit :( grumble grumble :( ah well tis the shortest day today.

No!- I wish!- mine haven't been worked in the school now for 4 weeks, last hacked them out 3 weeks ago, managed to lunge them for 5 days last week before the last lot of snow but I've had a virus so wasn't well enough to ride! then just as I was starting to feel up to riding, more snow!- I've never ever not been able to ride for 3-4 weeks because of the weather and I'm sure everyone is in the same boat!

Oh to have an indoor arena!...

I haven't ridden for weeks :( They have still been getting some daily turnout but the lanes coming off the yard are just too bad to risk it.

I've got an indoor school but not used it for weeks now!! It's freezing in there, by the time I get to the yard I'm shattered and worried about driving home in the snow so I'm afraid I've got 2 fat, lazy neglected horses right now!!! I'm so glad I've taken their shoes off because they are coping very well, all the shod horses are sliding around and their owners are panicking about leading them just across the yard (therefore most are standing in stables 24/7!!!!) but my boys are out enjoying the snow!!

I haven't ridden for a while now, we had ice before we had snow, and now we have both!! Horses have been in for 4 days as we can't get them to the field, but they don't seem bothered....good thing we've got big stables!

I rode last night and Saturday. Our outdoor is riding surprisingly OK with a mixture of frozen surface and snow.

Snow balls tend to flick out OK if you grease the feet and keep trotting. :)

I've been hacking as normal - just no road work. Lovely gallops through flat stubble fields in the snow is bliss!

Nooooo its not fair!!!!! I havent ridden for two weeks and I havent been able to get to yard for the last two days because of the car keep sliding into ditches along the lane. Will really need to consider 4 x 4 for next year as I hate not getting to him. I think tonight will park on Pub Car Park along the main road and just walk down the lane. I know he is being looked after but its not the same as me doing it. I just need to get to give him a cuddle. I know he wont be bothered as long as he is fed and warm BUT I AM

I ride three/four a day, we have an indoor school , its only 20x40 but better than nothing.I did risk a hack this morning in the snow which was exciting!
