This is my first post on the new forum, hope I can get it to work! Muppet was really lame behind this morning, hardly weightbearing. She hadn't eaten all her hay and judging from the state of her stable hadn't moved much. She had swelling around the hock and extending upwards and downwards. The vet has been and says that she has vasculitis, she has bute and antibiotics for 10 days and is on box rest with handwalking.

Anyone any experience of this? I swear this horse is making her way through the A-Z of horse illness!!

Thanks.

my friends horse had vasculitis after having strangles he was very ill and nearly died. he had odema collecting underneath his abdomen and ended up at the vet hospitasl for 5 days for intense treatment and iv fluids. your mare sounds like she more likely has lymphangitis rather than vasculitis but i am not a vet

Thanks for that, I can only find similar info to your experience. The vet is thinking vasculitis because although very lame, upon palpation the soreness follows the line of the vein going up her leg. He has told me that we need to watch for lymphangitis.
