Firstly I know this should be in vets, but more people look in here.
A few weeks ago my horse sudenly stopped giving me any lateral work at all, usualy he is a star at this, thought it was a bit odd so I trotted him up and he looked sound. Put it down to being fresh and the fact we were schooling in the field.
Hacked him out for a few days after that and he felt sound. He then had two days off and on the third day he was getting new shoes, the farrier mentioned he felt tight behind and he snatched his leg back when he usualy behaves.
So I trotted him up for the farrier and he was dropping his left hip, and 2/10 lame on the turn. Decided to turn him out for the weekend and see how he was after a few days rest.
But on the monday I got a call from my mate who said he had fallen in the field and had a huge hole in his face. I rushed up and found as well as the hole he had a fat front right from the knee down. The vet came down and stapled his face together and gave me a huge bag of drugs for him. He was on the drugs for two weeks and was visably more comfortabe on then (adiquin, and danalon) he is now off the drugs and once again he is dropping his hip and lame on the turn, however the farrier was up the other day to do other horses and asked me to move him again so he can watch him, this time I tied his tail up so he can see better, and it was noticed that when he puts his right hind down he shakes from the hock down, its a odd movement, hard to explain, but when you watch him from behind it shakes.
I was pretty sure I was going to be dealing with spavin as he has done a lot of hunting in his past, but this shake has confused me. The vet is out in the morning but I am now beging to panic. The last time I had a slightly lame horse it went down hill fast and he had to be PTS. Has anyone ever seen a horse move in this way before and any clues as to why he is doing this?
This horse is my life, he is so special and I can hardly believe he is mine, couldn't cope if the same thing hapened.
