12 year old eventer, very fit (2 weeks after a CCI*).

Rode on the Wednesday eve and he was fine, thursday morning was hopping lame, had been stabled all night, rubber mats and Auboise.

Called vet, so lame he did not trot up, just walk. Nothing obvious to see but when gently flexed the fetlock was hardly weight bearing. So concluded it was that. Danilon (sp), rest and bandages and was sound on Sunday night when trotted up.

Again stabled between Sunday night and Monday morning when came out hopping lame. So back on Danilon and bandages, a good bit better today but still lameness visible in walk.

Have ordered a tub of Synequin.

Anyone got any suggestion what he's done or how?:confused:

Sorry - front left
Yes, there is a digital pulse.

Foot has been searched and hoof testers used and no pain/sensitivity.

?????????????? Anyone ??????????

Personally I would be asking for X-Rays/scans of the fetlock joint, especially since he was so lame after having the joint flexed.

Hi, yours sounds similar to neighbours pony - hopping lame - no foot pain when hoof testers used, no obvious heat/swelling but pulse in the one leg - she put him on danelon and he improved but when let out of stable area went downhill again - this has been going on just over a week and he is on the mend but still no idea what it was ! the only thing she noticed was that just below his ergot was swollen - he had also been absolutely fine the day before !

Still no idea of cause but she kept him in on soaked hay etc in case of lami but farrier fairly sure not lami ! Hopefully he will be 100% in a few days !

We did quey abscess or hoof bruise ! a mystery !

Hope your chap better soon x

I would poltice the foot too. It's one of the first things I do with any footy problems then go from there. If he didn't improve with the poltice over say 5 days I would be looking for some nerve blocks and then xrays.

Farrier coming out tomorrow to take the shoe off and see what she thinks. If she finds nothing and still lame on friday I think we are looking at xrays. Problem is with a 12 year old horse that has done 8 seasons of BE back to back including three 3DEs there are going to be some signs of wear and tear in the joint but will have no idea what is new and what is old.

Sorry, missed you post about the digital pulse, so agree with the others about most likely to be the foot. Hope the farrier can shed some light on it.

Well farrier came, and she took the shoe off and had a really good look. She agrees he's very lams but could find no reason for this in his foot or anywhere else for that matter.

Vet coming on Sunday - last time it was just 'one of the vets' and although very good not my usual horse vet who is the senior partner. So on Sunday it's the senior partner coming out.

Very worried about him as in 8 years he's never had anything like this :-(
