I am going to Hartpury college for a taster week(rural skills) from sunday to friday and I am extremely nervous(mind you I am a nervous quiet semi shy person)

as I have never been to a place this big before as I went to eastleigh college(residential)and fortune centre.I am 28 years old and I will be staying in one of the non-self catering new vicarage halls and I am wondering if anyone goes there and can settle my nerves down abit.

i am going in september and its really nice and friendly, there are always people who will come and give you a hand!
hope you enjoy it there

I'm at Hartpury, a first year Equine Science student. I'm non-resident as I live literally 10 mins down the road, so aren't really qualified to give residential advice, but you'll be fine! New Vic is quite nice, so at least you know you won't be staying in a dump!
Food from the refectory is a bit 'school dinners', but you can always go to Penfold's which do panini's etc and is a bit more civilised! There's a restaurant up at the main house too, but haven't been there though I'm told its good.
It's not very scary at all!

I am there...a third and final year student and I finish at 4.30pm next wednesday...now that is scary!
So any questions, feel free the throw them my way as I may as well be the gospel of that place now! hahaha!!
In all seriousness though...it is good, everyone is pretty friendly...if you get stuck, just ask someone, they won't look at you odd or anything like that!! Although campus will be VERY quiet as degree students will be pretty much finished and the ND's will all be on half term.
Don't worry, you will have fun, and remember that everyone is in the same boat as you.

I got told I am the only one on a taster week especially for the special needs and school leavers course rural skills.
Unfortunately I am the type of person who normally sits in the back of the classroom in the corner and hides.

I am off tomorrow afternoon to Hartpury me and dad hopefully are going to get there between 3-5pm maybe a little bit earlier I feel sick as anything(probably nerves)

.I swear my dads trying to get rid of me he has packed a rucksack and I mean a camping rucksack with stuff in it hat, boot and whip bag with stuff, holdall with bedding and a trolley case just for a week I am only doing rural skills for five days(agriculture, horticulture, horsecare, animalcare and conservation)is it me or has he packed a bit too much I know I have alot of medical problems, disabilities and handicaps but this seems ridiculous

. What is even worse is I am stuck on my own in a strange place until monday morning when I meet my mentor and group and with me being a shy, quiet and nervous person

I have a feeling I am going to be petrified so I have decided to stay in my room until monday that way I will probably be alright

.

I hope that you won't get the chance to stay in your room all weekend - there must be someone there to welcome you and make you feel at home. I would be tempted to get out there and see what was going on although it does sound as though it's quiet there at this time of year.
I hope you enjoy yourself.

I did stay in my room the people in my accomadation weren't very friendly
frown.gif
but my course students(most of them)were really friendly
smile.gif
I won't be going there next year
ooo.gif
.I enjoyed the course but not the accomodation
wink.gif
I got mixed reactions from all the staff and mixed messages

.The surroundings is beautiful
