We moved this weekend and are based in Bough Beech (Winkhurst Green), am just wondering if anyone knows the area and what the toll rides are like/where, as I am wondering if it is worth me joining. Thanks in advance!
Move went well thanks, we are all in and they are settling in (they both think its all quite spooky being in a strange place, but then there are no other horses there to reassure them). Roof is done on the stables, just need to felt it - will do some pics once its done. Hacking is lovely, the lanes are so quiet, although both times we have been out we met a tractor, but fortunately he wasn't too bothered about it!! I know there are some toll rides, I'm just wondering how far away they are from us, as to whether its worth joining or not! I also got my insurance money back (just over £3k) so am that bit closer to buying a trailer/small box
Hiya, yep I'm just down the road in Cowden, and I highly recommend the toll rides - there are loads all around you, Ide Hill, Toys Hill, Four Elms, Goathurst Common, Charcott, Leigh, Chiddingstone & Penshurst are covered in toll rides which give you miles and miles of open country, all very varied, lots with jumps - absolutely fantastic country for riding, you can go for hours and hours and barely do any road work!! I have almost 20 kids from our riding school all signed up and have more and more joining - the more people the more likely it is they can open even more country!!!
Depends excatly where you are but there will be ones you shouldn't have to do virtually any road work for at all - looking at the map I'd say you can do the charcott/leigh ones and the goathurst common & possibly ide hill ones without any main roads - the others you may have to cross main roads every once in a while but you should be able to use little lanes and bridleways to help you out.
How do you find out details of the toll rides? I'm in Biggin Hill but keen to get out and about in new areas (now the credit crunch is limiting my competing)!
