Try posting in hunting forum you may get more response. I went hunting for first time last year (in somerset) first time was terrifying but brilliant - gets less scary but always an adrenalin rush ! Go and have fun

oohh theres a hunting forum?!?1 hahaha xx i didnt know :) thanks x

I went with them a couple of years ago as a first timer myself :) Everyone was very friendly, they had a second master at the back helping us newbies, and showing us ways round anything bigger than 2'6 if we wanted to miss them out!

When I went it was a real mish-mash of ages and abilities, but everyone was very welcoming and friendly, and the second master took very good care of the first timers! They mark out on the meet cards and the website the hunts that are less suitable for novices, and the ones with lots of easy routes round big jumps.

Try the hunting forum, I posted something similar when I went with them and I think a few of the subscribers/staff are on here :)

They are our local hunt and hunt through our yard so I can answer some of these:

1) Yes, they take novice hunters out cubbing before the season starts
2) All ages and abilities - they have several children's hunts in the season and adult newbies are welcome to join
3) Long/fast - depends on your ability and which hunt you join . . . there are always options to go round/not to jump and the youngsters hunts are relatively sedate and very well managed
4) Jumps are defo do-able . . . quite tame really (compared to some of the things I've seen hunts in Ireland jump)
5) Scary? Well the people certainly aren't and whether the hunts themselves are depends really on you, your ability/horse and which hunt meet you choose (if that makes sense).

Hiya littlemouse, we have jumps ranging from the ridiculously easy to some quite serious stuff. But it is not a competition or a test to see who is bravest. My advice is dont try to jump somthing you are not happy with .(I wish I would listen to my own advice:D)There is a slow field usualy as well as the faster jumping field. So there is room for everybody. Introiduce yourself to the hunt secretary as a first timer (its cheaper too:))You will be well looked after and we are a very friendly bunch . Look out for me on a 17.2 sortof palomino and say Hi.

I've been out with the sand hurst and they are a really friendly bunch. Meets vary quite a lot, I've had one bad day where they went very fast over very boggy ground and it put me off them for a bit, went back out last season a couple of times and it was a much better pace!
