hi :)
i got a letter to say that i had qualified for the BRC/BE80 championships in september

it will be about a five hour drive for me and i'm not sure if it is worth going all that way for :o my friends are trying to convince me it will be good fun but it is a long way and will involve traveling down on the friday and staying over

has anyone been before ? what is it like ?

My friend did it last year and did come away very disappointed. It was just another section in an event at a college - no sense of occasion or specialness. The horses record originally just had BE80 on it -you had no idea from its record that it had been to the championships. The prizes were significantly better at the qualifier where you won a days training - at the final you got a £5 gift voucher which if you wanted to redeem would cost you more in postage than the voucher. There were other things as well.

They did write to BE who changed the website to show it was the finals and if they did that maybe they also took on board all the other things. It was nearly a year ago so cant totally remember everything - but they wouldn't go again.

oh dear :(
that doesn't sound worth bothering with :(
its going to cost a fortune in fuel and staying over but my main concern was keeping my horse in fairly hard work for an extra month as i had planned to do richmond as my last event this season but it doesn't really seem worth it tbh

might have a rethink , i wasn't really that bothered about going until my friend saw it in the RC maq and told me to read it , they seemed really excited about it , oh well never mind :(

Well they may have taken on board all the comments from last year and will make it more special this year, my friend wasn't the only unhappy person there. It is an achievement qualifying and probably worth investigating what changes they have made to the finals this year.

Thanks :)
I think I'll see how many friends want to come and see if we can make it more of a trip away mini break type of thing and not get to hopeful about the comp and if it is good it's a bonus :) I think it's just such a long way for what looks like an ordinary BE80

hello :D
i forgot about this thread , thank you
i did decide to go and had a fantastic time , we were the mad geordies partying with the big gasibo stuck on the outside of an old layland daff :p

it took us 6 hours to get down there but it was well worth it , my horse was on his best behavior and got a double clear and 10th place , it would have been 2nd if the dosey jockey had put her foot down :o but never mind was happy i got a ribbon and a sound horse to take home :)

i really did enjoy it and went home with a great big i love my horse smile , he's now enjoying a well deserved holiday after giving me the most fantastic year
