Looking at doing beach ride there in the summer, has anyone ridden there or done beach ride? Also my friend is disabled, has a condition that weakens her left side, she is a reasonable rider but only really in walk/trot and odd controlled canter. She would love to do a beach ride, hoping that if we ask them they may do something for her xx

don't know the specifics of woolacombe riding stables but most riding school insurance does not cover them for riding people with disablities. I know this because I work at an RDA centre and there is an excellent rider there who really needs to be challenged more than we are able to on our horses (we have a lot of very quiet lead rein types). She has tried to ride at other local non RDA riding school and despite the fact that she has only a relatively mild disability they are unable to ride her.

I would definately phone ahead and estabish if she would be insured to ride.

I rode there a few years ago, it seems pretty nice from what I can remember. I have been on both the sand dune ride and the beach ride (we go there every year, it's my second home!). The horses/ponies all seem very sensible and know what they are doing, so you probably don't need to worry with regard to control. If they are reluctant for your friend to do the beach ride, the sand dune ride is really nice, with some lovely tracks and scenery. I would say your best bet is to give them a call to discuss your requirements. It's quite expensive, but worth the money as it's a beautiful place.

Hope this is helpful!

Thanks for that, it's really helpful to hear from someone who's ridden there. My friend is going to call them to ask if she could do the beach one, she's not worried about going fast, just worried about stopping! Sounds like the horses are ideal. If not the dune one sounds nice xxx

If it's like when I went, the horses are pretty laid back- can't imagine any out of control rampages! xx
