Yes - I went out there with university (mandatory field trip) and spent a couple of months travelling. We visited most of the national parks. It makes a huge difference to your safari wth regards to what park you choose. For example, Nakuru has awesome scenery and beathtaking views, it is ideal for those really into birds. If it is elephants you want, you can't beat Tsavo. Massaai Mara is amazing for lions, although I found it a disappointment after all the hype about it - very commericalised and the animals are often quite tame and lay about next to the trucks etc. Of all the parks I viited my favourite was Samburu - we saw all of the "big five" there, as well as lots of other rarities. If I was taking anyone to Kenya, I would definately go to Samburu with them, and depending on time, Nakuru and probably the coast too - some amazing coral reefs if you are into diving.

Yes went a few years ago an a ' Finch Hatton' safari in Tsavo. Fantastic experience. I did find the masai mara ( sp ) fascinating but a bit too touristy, they mobbed us for pens / sweets etc and money when we got off the bus. But hey they're poor so what do I know.

Combined it with two weeks on the beach aswell. Only thing letting it down was the beach part cos we weren't allowed off the hotel complex without security or organised trip. Even beach was advise against because of aggressive hawkers.

Not sure if all Kenya beaches are like that.

A few piccies (apologies - any excuse!)

I am off to Kenya on the first leg on my honeymoon in July, I cannot wait. Apparantly it is a very good time to see the migration during July - August if you were thinking of going.

Not Kenya but been to Tanzania just over the border. We went on safari in the Serengeti, Lake Manyara, and Ngorongoro crater. I went with my college and I have to say ti was the BEST TRIP EVER!!!!

We saw the "big 5". Pretty much saw every kind of animal you will ever want to see out on safari...and it we managed to go at the same time as most of the baby animals had been born

Be careful though, don't know if you are camping out on safari....we did...do not keep out ANY food when you are on safari. We had all ours locked up. Still it didn't stop hyenas stealing a few peoples shoes, and during breakfast a male elephant stomped through our camp and destroyed one of the small tents....we did have guards on stand-by with poisoned arrows

Wow that's strange, I was just looking up the different types of Safari's in Kenya.

I want to go in july with my boyfriend and like the idea of a beach and safari combo.

I will check out Samburu as I have only found info on Tsavo and masai mara.

Can you recommend any good sites/ tour operators ect?

I wanted to go to Kenya last year, but we have two small children and the travel agents really advised/warned us against it! Think it was to do with not being able to leave the resorts/people hassling you on the beach/etc.
We went to Florida and did Disney instead!! Which was fantastic! But I got my animal fix in Animal Kingdom, where their bus safari is really good and you get to see Lions, elephants, hippos, crocs, giraffe and all sorts! I know it's not quite Kenya but I didn't want to risk it with the children.

Not kenya but my OH is from South Africa so have been to The Kruger National Park a few times which is amazing.

Going back in March and we are doing a road trip through Botswana and Namibia crossing the Makadikadi Pans, the Okovango Delta, Etosha, the Namib desert and the Transkalahari - I can't wait :-)

Will be really hot and dusty and I'll probably have the sorest ass in the world after trucking around for 2.5 weeks but I'm sure a few cold beers will take the pain away :-)))
