Have seen a few fb ads for this company and they had a stall at HOYS this year- they specialise in rugs for 'the big boned' and are designed to be extra roomy round the chest and shoulders. Thinking of buying one of their lightweight rugs for my traditional cob as so few stable rugs have shoulder pleats in these days ( lightweight ones anyway). Just wondered if anyone has bought from them and are they as roomy as they say?

They most certainly are - my Ardennes has 3 in different weights that he never wears because I let him grown a coat a polar bear would be proud of! They accommodate his tummy nicely and most rugs don't stretch round that far even with their straps on long. Plus everything then looks a bit silly because I end up trying him in a 7 foot fly rug to try and find something that fits his tummy and it hangs down over his tail or wrinkles up everywhere. He's a 5'9" in a Big Horse rug.

Because they are roomy around the chest you can order in a normal size for your horse. I'm going to get a MW off them for my French draft x who takes a 6'6" in standard (non biggy) rugs but should be closer to a 6'3" or even a 6' if I wasn't trying to squeeze them round her tummy and chest.

Thanks SEL, for me it is the huge shoulders that are hard to accomadate- ok if buying a combo cos the neck somehow pulls the rug forwards but i am trying on standard necks two sizes bigger to give her shoulders room to move. Will bite the bullet and get 1 ordered then:)

Thank you booandellie for posting this! You beat me to it as have also being debating over coughing up for one after seeing a rush of advertising of this lately. I have a 16.1hh ISH who is in a 7ft stable rug just to fit (her saddle girth measures 60" to give you an idea of just how wide she is even though her ribs are still showing through). Was tossing up between this and the Amigo XL. Sorry for barging onto this thread but does anyone have experience with the neck sizes on the combo's... are they massive? Despite my mares build she has a normal large size neck.

I think my lad's MW came with a neck cover - If I get to the yard in daylight I'll see if I can dig it out, but from memory they are pretty big. I also think they are detachable which might mean you can buy a rug from them & a normal sized neck cover.

He has a very typical Belgian neck - short in length but making up for it in crest!

From what I have seen the necks which are detachable come in different widths to accomadate different size necks. My friend checked out the quality for me at hoys and said they were good quality. I wish I had seen these before I forked out for turnouts for new pony! They also do a 50 gram turnout too!

Never ordered from them before but I also have a big shouldered horse.

Have you looked at normal makes wide versions?

I just picked up a weatherbeeta in the sale that is in their wide range and fits so nicely :) maybe worth a look as they aren't too expensive?

Yes, I also bought that weatherbeeta but I was actually considering writing to weatherbeeta about their xw rug as it didn't seem any wider than her other rugs, bit disapointed as bought it in the sale and couldn't return it!!

I had a lw rug from the Heavy Horse Shop a few years ago for my maxi cob but it didn't fit him well. The neck was huge and got hooked behind his wither which in turn made the rug very tight across his shoulders. Maybe the designs have improved since my purchase or maybe they just weren't the right shape for my cob?

Oh! Well I bit the bullet and ordered a lw stable rug- the one I wanted was sold out so I spent £90 on one with a detachable neck which is way more than I would usually spend but if it fits her will be worth it- lightweight stablerugs with gussets are impossible to find even for regular shaped horses!

For anyone thinking about purchasing from the big horse shop I thought i'd rate my experience and say they were fantastic! I ordered my rug on monday and it was delivered on Tuesday and I didn't pay any extra for fast shipment! I got a message yesterday morning giving me a delivery timeslot so I made sure I was in. The rug itself fits like a dream and is the quality I expect for spending 90 odd pound on a stable rug. Usually (unless I buy weatherbeeta my rug shopping involves tooing and froing from shops to get the right fit and I wouldn't normally try an unknown brand Internet purchase) but I am one happy customer. Lots of companies get slated on here but good ones should get the praise they deserve! Highly reccomend for true to size fitting for horses built like tanks and great service!
