Anyone doing Hickstead Team of 3??

im grooming for someone for team jumping on Sunday. We are staying Saturday night and taking a BBQ along :)
Wont be too much of a party as we got carried away at County last year and felt very sorry for ourselves the next day, will be having a glass of wine (or two :P ) though. You should come and join us :)

What to take:

make a list of everything you need, take spare equipment such as head collars, leadropes etc. Dont forget equipment for yourself, i know sometimes people get so worried about remembering their horses equipment and forget their own!
Water bucket, feeds, haynets, bedding and mucking out tools. Grooming kits, studs - im pretty sure they are going to be needed.
Warm clothes to wear over night and cover up with before your class as its likely to be muddy.

Passport!

Plenty of food and drink :D

Me, if it goes ahead! It will be my very first time riding at hickstead so im very excited. There have already been some arena changes to the bunn leisure arena so as there is not other jumping that day im hoping that theey will move it into there from ring 4.

Im hoping and praying i get my change to ride and my horse doesnt disgrace me lol.

Im about an 1hr 15 mins away by trailer so will be leaving at stupid oclock in the morning.
 
I'm going with 3 teams from my Rc, did it on my mare last year but she is only just coming back into work. Last year the stable was full of shavings when we got there just take feed and haylage and tools to muck out with and if it's on grass studs are a must!!!

We are also planning on a big BBQ too!!! I'm preying to the weather gods, for sunshine!!!
 
was meant to be going but horse decided to injure himself. i can only imagine what state the ground is in given how awful it looked at the Derby meeting last month and it hasn't stopped raining since. Suddenly not so sad I'm not going! Good luck to everyone going - hope you dont get washed away!
 
I am soooooooo unbelievably excited, this will be my first time jumping at Hickstead with a horse I purchased as a happy hacker lol!

Praying it isnt cancelled due to the silly weather and the ring we are in isnt the best I dont think!

guys there is a big bear tent at the top of the stable field - PARTY is in there (you cant miss it when you come in)

After the bear tent then walk back down the lane towards the roundabout that you turned in from - we will all be in the castle till 3am !!

be careful on the walk back though many a time i have ended up in the ditches that run down the lane to hickstead x
 
Seriously wondering if it an possibly go ahead... 300 horses jumping the same course on a grass ring on a slope... At the end of a 5 day show....
 
My horse is a cob who loves mud and the horse box is hired .... Bring it on. This has cost me a fortune so it'll be a one and only chance for us to get a photo of us jumping the Hickstead planks :-)

Do they have more than one surfaced arena though? Know there is the big bunn leisure one that is usually a warm up?
 
On the sunday the BRC jumping is the only jumping on apart from the international arean, all other classes sunday are showing. Therefore if the ground is wet I have heard from a few people that its likely to be moved to the all weather with a sectioned off part one end for the warm up. The showing will probably continue in the grass arenas and they may well warm up on the smaller surfaced area next to ring 4 which is what we will use for the BRC jumping class if its not moved.

I just hope its not cancelled and mud covered as I want me and my girl to look smart. I might only be doing the teams but just to get to ride at hickstead is enough for me :-)

Im watching the website for any ring changes so if i hear of anything will post it.

I went last year in the heat wave that came that weekend.
Take as little as possible in valuables, don't take your 'show day leather headcollar' or your best rug, a few things tend to walk from the stable area. keep your grooming kit in the stable with your horse.
I'd talk to your team and arrange for each person to take a shared item, as it's a bloddy long walk from the lorries to the stables, and hardly any room once you are down there.
leave PLENTY of time to get from stables to arena, it's a good 10 mins on foot (in the dry).
Take BBQ/food with you if you can, or cook in your lorry - the one catering van we could get to at 7pm had run out of most things!
If you have seen an photos on FB of the carpark, you'll see that everyone is being towed in and out, so leave extra time for that.

That sounds all a but serious doesn't it?! having said all this, last year was great fun - tiring and a very long day with alot of walking, but it was great (my team won which helped!!).

See you Sunday (hopefully in the outdoor arena!).

great isnt it !!! just what hickstead is !!

I wouldnt wash anything clean your ponies legs or nothing it is a mud pit and it will be pointless even if you are in the sand arena !!!!

it is supposed to rain Thursday and friday now x
 
You can all stop worrying about the wet. I've bought new wellies that should be here any day & today I bought a new waterproof. As long as I don't pack sunscreen that should guarantee weather so hot that within hours we are complaining that the ground is too hard & the paramedics are run off their feet dealing with heat stroke/sunburn!
 
Do we really think they will run the RC's on Sunday?
With 200 odd teams thats 600 or so competitors?
I don't know how the hell they can accomodate that on the ground - both jumping ring and lorries/parking!

I predict chaos :)
 
100 teams :) but still, I agree.... Think there is talk of it being on the surfaced arena, however I'm not sure about the lorries - even if no-one bought extra passes, there were two per team so that's 200 lorries/trailers going on and off.... Whereas presumably a lot who are there already are in situ now and will just need towing off at the end? Knowing what a jigsaw puzzle it tends to be there with the parking, I can't see how they can get that number on/off the site safely?
 
I just hope they make a firm decision by Saturday morning. Before I have packed the lorry and headed off!!
 
At 45 I am fulfilling one of my lifetimes ambitions to ride at Hickstead, am very worried about the mud and having to queue for 4 hours to get in, my horse will kick his way out of the horsebox... If they do cancel it I hope they have the decency to post on the website early Sat am before we leave. Got 4 hour journey to get there...

Im in the 85cm section so will be hitting the road around 5am so hoping its not going to be too busy that early. I have a 4x4 and trailer so fingers crossed my parking skills ( not towed for that long ) are ok and i manage it lol.

I think we have to remember its still 2 full days away and the forcast it very good so fingers crossed it gets better and better as the days go on.
