I've always wanted to have a go at side saddle and bigbird would look fantastic ~ so...

... anyone had a go, does it properly etc. Any info gladly received, and if I had a go, and enjoyed it, I would like to get into it properly.

Thanks x

Yeah ive given it a go, cant say i enjoyed it much as both times it was on very bouncy horses and its quite hard to find your balance from the normal way of riding. If you do decide to go ahead and try it then for your own sake dont do more than 15mins on your first go as your right leg will ache like mad from it being in different position!! Especially in the morning!

Good luck! i hope you enjoy it more than I did

I have - rode my SJer in one (the grey on the left and in the centre of my sig) as i had the opportunity and I loved it! He picked it up really quickly and TBH I had my best flatwork out of him in the SS!

Years ago - used to compete in Ladies Hunter class in SS. I loved it but it was hard to learn and did make my leg and side ache a bit.

Give it a go and see what you think but I would recommend you have a few lessons as its a bit like skiing - hard work but once you get the hang of it you love it!

I did a bit of showing side saddle which was a laugh with me dressed up in skirt, veil etc.

Iyt wasn't really for me but glad I had a go. Certainly a very secure way of riding and very difficult to fall off although dangerous if a horse ever fell with you.

I've had a go a few times - Lots of fun - just relax, don't tense up, which I think is what most people do when they do side saddle because it feels so odd at first!!
I found canter much easier than trot, so have a go at canter lol - it is surprisingly comfy!

Me having a go!!

Claire Lewis is not too far from you and she does lessons and hires out saddles, don't have a contact number though but I'm sure you can get her details through the Side Saddle Association.
