Anyone eles horse sad this time of year??!!

Hello just looking for abit of info if anyone has any..
This time of year starting oct time my horse turns grumpy :/
He becomes a pain to ride very lively,always wanting to do one speed ( gallop) hes not so bad on the way out its always on the way home mainly.He wont stand still wants to be upfront n is wel just grumpy like a old man!!!
In summer hes perfect totally different :/
I must add he does have arthritis a mild case vet said in back n front legs..hes prob had this a while as hes an ex event horse he also comes with other intersting injurys Witch i must add dont seem to bother him...
i thought tonight maybe giving him bute aday???if hes in pain??or am i just excusing a nappy horse as hes more then happy to b rode!!
i dont really want to start with any drugs until he really needs it because if i do then when he gets older il b stuck for somthing to give him right!
Hes already on cortavet,he is stabled at night..
Any info would b great

Lol my mare the same lol over summer she is so easy and now this time of year she is a half wit lol spooks at everything especially in the arena and there is ghost objects as i have no idea wat she is spookin at!! Wen u put her out after about 2 hrs she standing at gate lookin in any horse that walks past her stable she puts ears right back and does the grumpy face lol
