When my two have their winter coats, i come out in a rash every time I've been riding. Its all red and blothchy and bumpy. I have mild eczema aswell but this is much worse.
Just come in from riding now and have had to have a cool shower to cool my skin down. I've used all sorts of creams and potions to help it, but none seem to work

Does anyone else have this problem, or are there any suggestions for helping it?
Hot choccy for getting this far

I am! I take - on prescription - loratadine (clarytin) every day, use opticrom eyedrops 3 times a day, fructisone nasal spray twice a day and an inhaler! All caused by the neds, and I still come up in red blisters if I get saliva on me.
Like you I muck out and do them and then have a shower straight away. I'm better in winter tbh, the summer is hell!

I am and it's a bit of a pain. I was fine until I left school and went to work with them full time. I couldn't stop sneezing/ blowing my nose and developed asthma. I constantly have a pocket full of tissues and I'm always blowing my nose. Grooming them is the worst particularly when they have a winter coat or are particularly muddy. And clipping isn't great and is something I've just done today!

Glad it's not just me as the initial doctor told me to stay away from horses...yeah right!

I am allergic to hay and hayledge, cannot touch the stuff, makes me sneeze, eyes stream and makes my breathing hard and i weeze and a itchy back throat!, have been tested for asthma but dont have it but this was ages ago now, dad is forcing me to go to the docs to get it sorted,

but lucky for me i dont need to touch it mum deals with it, i cannot walk in the hay cumbard tho haha!, poor you for your horses must be horrible!

I've been allergic to all animals with fur and especially horses since I was a kid. I used to be terrible and would get very wheezy and my eyes would stream when i was little. Think spent most of my childhood wheezing! Lol

However, since having my own horses it has got better but I go through phases. I am most allergic to my own horse, his coat his very coarse and brings me up in a rash when clipping (oh i also get eczema). Hey aren't horses fun eh!!

I used to be badly allergic to them when I was a child but I seem to have got getting better with them over the years. I would sneeze non stop my eyes would be itchy as hell then puff up and close but never had those symptoms for a while now although I still get a rash from their saliva.

I'm allergic to my horse, other horses, straw and have bad hayfever! I am constantly sneezing whilst at the yard and my asthma is much worse than it should be as it is aggravated daily from being at the yard. This is all despite prescribed antihistamines, nose spray and eye drops. If I get horse hair or saliva on me I also come up in big hives.

I have tried to give up several times, particularly because of my asthma, but just can't so struggle on! Must be bloody mad but glad I'm not alone!

I went to see a specialist this summer but we got no where, he just couldn't get his head around why I didn't just stop riding...problem solved!

I'm allergic to their hair. When it comes to spring and they start moulting I spend the entire time at the yard (and several hours afterwards) with puffy eyes and a runny nose.
Like some others, I am much better with my own horse - I think your body gets used to them.
I am also allergic to cats - but I don't like cats so no problems there!

I am but not as much as I used to be! I survive by using paper facemasks for grooming, making up haynets, sweeping dusty areas etc. I buy a big box and then every pocket in all my horse clothes are full of them.

My OH is allergic to hay/straw/dust but not his horse.

If its just their winter coats that set you off...why don't you get someone to clip them, then theres only a small amount of hair.

Yep, mine came on when I was 40 years old having been around horses all my life with never a sniff of an allergy (excuse the pun!)

I went for months thinking that I had a cold that wouldn't go away until I finally realised it was my horses causing it.

An allergy test at the doctors confirmed I'm now allergic to horses, cats & certain grasses :-(

I take Piriton every day now but one good thing is it made me give up smoking which has helped th allergy symptoms a lot.
