Anyone else appreciate their ‘easy’ horses?

I do as you know

Love him to bits, while others struggle to get there horse round small courses despite years of trying I can go straight anywhere and know Pickle will happily pop over fillers etc, would rather have an easy horse I can have fun on than a horse that really is making life hard for you!

OMG! its so funny you should post this! i was out on hack today with two other liveries. on way home both thier horses were jogging sideways, rearing, bucking you name it! me and my coblet were happily wandering along i had my feet out stirrups while the other two were clinging onto anything and everything! i love my 2! my 2 are more than happy to stay put while the other go galloping past them! they do everythin at nice chilled pace! infact the other day i put a total novice on my mare and we had canter in open field and the min i stopped my horse she stopped too! you cant find these kinda horses! love them both!

I don't have an easy horse, and TBH I'm often jealous when I see people with laid back horses they can take anywhere and do anything with.

My girl is hot headed, sharp and argumentative and I can never totally relax around her as that's when she'll do something! Her one big saving grace, is that she is absolutely solid in traffic, alone or in company. Also, its very rare for her to buck, rear, spook or nap - I feel fairly 'safe' on her even though I don't fully trust her!

It gets quite tiring, having a horse who pushes the boundaries and tries it on day in, day out. I can never go to a show and have a quiet trot round the clear round, because to her jumping shows mean ''bomb round as fast as possible and if in doubt, jump reeeaaallly high over the scary ones". I have to plan her work routine so we don't do the same thing two days in a row as that will be boring and invite mischief.

I adore my horse, and she's with me for good now, but I do think that she's always been, and always will be, too much for me; I'm determined that my next one will be smaller and easier.

I do! I trust my pony 100% and can go anywhere and do anything with him.

I do like a challenge, and my mum's horse (a 5 year old Irish gelding) is still quite green and so I am schooling him etc, but the only reason I have the confidence to do this is because of my fab pony! I don't find my pony boring, I love being able to just ride him and enjoy myself.

Oh yes

When I was looking for another horse the one thing I insisted on was uncomplicated despite people saying that I would be "bored" Why would I be bored with a well mannered, easy to handle, safe to ride (but still forward going) horse? Too many people think that easy = plod. TBH I think you have to have had a difficult horse to really appreciate your easy horse.

oh yesssss! my boy is go anywhere, do anything, altho its all done with a fair bit of "containable" excitement. before him i had a do nothing, go nowhere mare, so yes yes yes, i appreciate my easy boy!!!

God yes. A bit too much, to the point that I regularly stress about what I will do after him as I am so, so spoilt with him. There's nothing he can't do, and nothing bad he will ever do. But he still has tons of character. I simply do not see how anything else could ever come close to following his act.

Hm. I think that one day the Dizzy one will be an 'easy' horse, although she definately isn't now

. A friend watched her the other day and said she was glad she wasn't riding her: not in a nasty way, just couldn't be doing with the spinny/backwards stuff. I, on the whole, feel safe on her - she does not bob off. If she took off I'd be scared.

I hope that the work we're putting in now will mean that in the future, she will be 'easy' as in loading, travelling, standing (under saddle and tied up), and generally going at the speed I ask her too. She's an honest horse that will give her last ounce, so I hope I can help her learn the rest.

I hope one day to have an easy horse, a stranger who saw him thought he was intriguing ,complex and fascinating !!!!! . My other horse is fab and easy peasy

I've had both. For the past 5 years I've had 2 horses who were TOTALLY different, both to handle and to ride. I sold ' the difficult one' recently but TBH I really miss him! He was very difficult to handle to begin with (and to ride initially), he tested me beyond belief at everything I asked of him and I struggled for the first year but eventually he turned into this fab horse who I believe would have given his life for me! He wasn't the easiest and still tested me sometimes but I learnt to deal with it - I learnt a hell of a lot from him and we had a really great relationship. My other (current) horse is perfect - he really is! I can't fault him, he is perfect to handle and ride, he'll tries his heart out for me and has never ever let me down, yet I still feel I don't have the relationship I have with the difficult horse I guess because we havent been through so much hell! lol. So I appreciate both types!

It's difficult to say if I would liek an 'easy' horse. Yes it would be very nice to have a horse that I could sit on, know exactly what I wanted to do that day and do exactly as planned. But, I like a challenge, and I like to work for the partnership! My boys are very easy on the ground, but not so whilst riding!

The coblets are dead easy, anyone could get on them and pootle around the tracks!!

The ginger would can be trusted with children, dogs...etc. But I would have to be careful who rode him, not just anyone can get on him and ride him, he's very sensitive, and if you don't know him he can be quite funny. And when I first got him we had a hard time, and I didn't know how to ride him, and I have forgotten the amount of arguments we had!

The bay one is very good once he knows you mean buisness, if you let him get away with things, he uses it to his advantage! And theres no way anyone bar my RI and I would ride him, he can turn himself inside out, upside down at any moment. fingers crossed we haven't had to deal with this for a little while, but we have had to work through it. It wasn't easy, but I'm pleased (is that a bad word to use!), I mean I'm pleased with how far we have come in such a short time!!

Anyway, yes i do appreciate how easy my coblets are (anyone can get on them!), and if I'm having a bad day it's nice to know I can go and have a ride and enjoy it, not worry about anything!!

But I also enjoy my boys who have that 'spark' then keeps me on my toes, I love a challenge and I love the feeling of accomplishment. I wouldn't go out looking for a horse that is silly and turns itself inside out, but if the horse was right for me I wouldn't turn it down....But it would have to have good ground manners, ie; I could load it myself, not have to worry about the dogs..etc..etc!!

i love having a horse that i can just get on and go and not have to worry about misbehaving. not to say he is boring though! i love to go and enjoy myself, and he loves to please

He does have a few moments with a few small bucks but only when he is excited and doesnt mean it harmfully. he has such a good character and wouldnt change him for the world!!
