I've got about 10 on my head a few on my face and neck all on my arms one on my back, my head is so itchy I must look like I have fleas as I'm constantly scratching it🤣

There are swarms of tiny black flies that bite I can feel them biting me and they are driving the horses crazy, they cluster on areas that don't have much hair and are obviously biting them.

They wouldn't stay out in the field yesterday.

Yes, got them last night and there was a big storm overnight. I immediately stripped when I got home and slathered them with Anthisan so they're not too bothersome now.

I am roasting - at the yard I have to wear a neck gaiter, hat, coat with tight wrists and they STILL manage to get through. It's not just the tiny black horrors, we have mahoosive mozzies now too and they munch through clothing.

Poor horses all want to come in pretty early, and everything was already pacing in the fields at 5.45 this morning.

eta: last night's rain really hasn't helped - there is a lot of standing water still.

I've been getting badly bitten for a couple of weeks now and when it started I did think that maybe the dogs had fleas but then I was catching the horses in one evening and I could feel myself getting bitten. They have been particularly bad this year. Yesterday the horses were just constantly walking round the field trying to get away from them.

Yes and I caught a kick this morning doing a belly strap - just a glance and big mare was mortified but she's a midge magnet

Mine have a shelter but they are in / out and pacing around. It's horrible.

Swallows are eating as many as they can

Yup! It’s hideous. Horse has finally been allowed back out in the field and does not want to be there! Still very limited grass - it all drowned I think and then refused to grow as it was so cold! He got about 30mins yesterday before charging around to try and out run the midges 🙈 ffs.

We had two on a starvation paddock but they broke the gate latch to get back into the big field. The gelding was dripping sweat poor lad. Thankfully today is windy and midgy things gone for now. I could feel them biting but thankfully have had no reaction to them.

I'm covered... antihistamine tablets only go so far. Using more Wonder Gel on me than the horses... We've had so little cold weather that the midges have been going all winter, they're now being joined by the little black biters. Just ordered some fancy expensive repellent stuff in total desperation!:eek:🤣

I stupidly went in a short sleeve t-shirt because it was boiling. Ended up slathering myself in neem oil because everything else i have is proper chemical.

I STINK. And we know it's going to take days to wear off.

We've got those nightmare huge black dangly things that don't bite but swarm you too. What're they called?

I think they are may flies 😂 I've seen a few of those horrible things.

I had no flies or bitey things today because it pissed down all day 😒

Yes, my head it bitten to bits. None on arms yet. Time to start coating me in repellant as well as Dave.
It's horrible isn't it I am constantly scratching my head abd my hair is really short, I now wear a hat and a high neck jacket bit can still feel them biting 🙁

I got my oh to look at the bites I have behind my ears and on the back of my neck he said they look like tiny multiple bites.

I've just put hydrocortisone on them and it has helped, I have bought multiple tubes before and used it on the horses and it has made a difference its only 1 or 2 percent so not strong.
