Overheard someone talking and apparently to earn the money to pay her cap to hunt, she goes out with the anti's on alternate weeks (getting paid).

She never goes as an anti to her own hunt though!

Unlikely I suspect!
Unless shes a mole - The Essex are paranoid about moles as we were hit pretty hard by one a few years ago.

I think at the end of the day they enjoy a good day out as much as anyone else. It's just that they are so uptight and righteous that they have to justify it to themselves by being monitors or sabs.

Did your mole ride to hounds? How long before her treachery was discovered, and how did you find out?

I wish, wish, wish we got paid!

Sabbing costs a small fortune in petrol, food and clothing. It may come as a surprise but we don't all wear camo and boots every day and my sabbing clothes always get wrecked so I've to buy a new set every season, grr.

If you happen to know which group this is that pays please let me know, I'm very interested in becoming an employee :)

I've not heard of anyone doing the same thing but some years ago a friend of my brothers got paid to go "sabbing". He was recruited at Uni and got paid ( think it was only something like £10) and a pack up for the day.

Did you hear this person while she was out hunting boxers? (Think if I heard someone saying this I would be inclined to inform the huntsman/master)

The idea that someone would join a hunt as a mole really does seem desperatly sad. I go on here to releive my boredom, but what a ridiculous way to spend a saturday.

Can't these people think of something worthwhile to do. The main effect that sabs have is to keep hunts going. And giove pro hunt organsiations propaganda coups.

There's nothing like a little conflict to make things more interesting.

Endymion, you must know who it was...
Will see if I can find link. Hunt was burned, but it was very complicated, she is a very nice person, just got sadly deluded into thinking it was cruel!
I don't think the hunt knew until it all came out.
Lady concerned didn't start as a mole, but set off to be a mole for the hunt with the sabs and it backfired.
Don't think I will look for link, as she was a great friend of my OHs and we go hunting in France every year with her mum. Live and let live!

Yes, well that's one of the problems about being a double agent - friendships with the 'other side' get in the way and bring dilemmas about loyalty. There is a fascinating book that has recently come out called Agent Zigzag by Ben Macintyre (a true story, which if published as fiction would have been dismissed as completely implausible) which is a good example of that.
Also, this girl may have been threatened and warned of a terrible fate unless she threw in her lot with the antis and gave up any association with the hunt.

It just seems so wierd to me.

I think people get a little bit too carried away with these things. They should lighten up a little.

Still I suppose it's better than going off and fighting for Al Quaieda or something!

I know that once over, (not sure if it still happens), but animal activists recruted students from uni to sab at hunts. Half of them didn't know what they were getting themselves in for!

I truely have never heard of this. It happened before I was even in London by the sounds it of it and no-one has ever mentioned it. I wonder who it is.......

I'm sure she wasn't kidnapped tho, she must have seen what a top bunch we all are.

...and just for the record Im not a grave robbing nutter and I'm against those that are. if they happen to be in NELS then they certainly don't let me in on their antics! :)

I actually didn't accuse you of being a grave stealing nutter!!
No she wasn't kidnapped, she must have found Lawrence irresistable!
