Absolutely........
Went out to buy my first horse ......16.2ish irish type gelding, mature, been there done that schoolmaster, safe, steady, reliable....
......bought 15.1hh rising 4, just backed, Irish (got that bit right!) mare who was so badly behaved at the vetting that the vet warned me off her!
Regrets - absolutely none what so ever, loved the little mare till I lost her at 10, she taught me more than any instructor, book or anything could ever do!
Did it again after her.........wanted 16.2-16.3hh IDxTB type, gelding, just backed, but sane, good work ethic etc
.....bought a 15.3hh, just backed, very green, WBxTB mare with a witchy temperament and a less than straight forward work ethic - love her to death though!!!
Whilst on some things I do think head should rule heart - ie health issues, I do tend to let my heart rule my head when picking horses. I "need" to have a connection, as if not, the best behaved horse wouldn't be for me.
