Anyone else ever had this problem with antibiotics?

By way of a bit of background, my horse managed to get a kick several months ago now and had a bit of a "lumpy bum" ever since. The vet decided to scan it a couple of weeks ago and thought there may be some pus in there. So he put him on 8 days of IM antibiotics. He was fine and the vet told me to go on and ride him as usual. Went back to the vets after 10 days for another scan and the lumps are going down, but the vet decided to give him another 2 weeks of antibiotics orally. Anyway, I have been hacking/schooling etc as usual and all was OK, so I took him off to a small BSJA show yesterday. He can be quite full of it at shows and have the odd buck etc, in the ring, can rush a little, but he jumped his first round and was very calm, had a lovely round but he was a little too steady and we got some time faults. The second class he had no energy whatsoever, I really had to kick him round and he had 2 down.

He is on hardly any hard feed at the moment (a scoop of alfa a and some vits), but I'm wondering if it's the antibiotics that's having this effect on him? Do you think I ought to feed him something a bit more or wait for another 10 days when he will have finished his antibiotics? It really is unlike him to be this steady - we have worked our way through all the calmers in the local feed merchants!!

i would leave it until the anti b,s are out of his system and see how he goes then then this way you will know if it is the meds causing this or some thing else!
