On our way out for a hack today and my mare decided that somebody opening their car door was FAR too scary and span and tried to leg it!What the hell??Coming from the horse who will happily try and overtake bin lorries with flashing lights etc. I know springs on its way and theyre excited but Im getting a bit fed up of doing my panic hanging on for dear life act every time we go out!

My mare is exactly the same... I have resorted to putting a balance strap on my saddle. It is great to have something to grab if your horse decides to spook and spin at the same time!

Axey was like this today, I only wanted to trot and I got launched into the air in a series of bucks and leaps about!

Actually he's been like this for ages, I'm thinking of putting him on a calmer lol!!

I love this time of year. April is normally such a sensible little horse to hack it's funny to see her on her toes. That's all she does though luckily, she doesn't deign to spook

Older daughter feeling somewhat better post paramedic (see my poor daughter post!) I decided to lunge younger daughter's pony before even putting her on, and it proceeded to give a display worthy of some wild west rodeo show. As a result of the drama of the day, my cob didn't even get ridden, and even he is snorting and dancing all over the place.
Must be spring in the air!

Jolly good, not just my mareish mare then!

Mind you, I think she's coming into season so her stubborn, 'I'm not doing that and I'm seriously considering tanking off on you' attitude is understandable.

Oh Yesssss. After my mare trying to deposit me in the school yesterday, I decided she would have a long hack today. Buck, buck, buck, buck, buck

It must be spring - my 9 month old filly has finally today, after spending the last couple of weeks being picked on by the 3yo gelding, finally fought back today!!

She has found that while the gelding likes to play a bit rough, biting and things, that she can rear much better than him and she can also do flying bucks much higher than him too! George's face was a picture when she started waving all 4 feet in front of his ears!!!

Aw, tell me about it! It's not just the mares that are leaping about like spring lambs. My normally sane, level-headed, wouldn't-bat-an-eyelid gelding of a cob is pulling so many new tricks out of thin air, my YO swears I lied when I told him my horsey's age. (16 this year)

Yep, can't even ride atm cos the beast is bucking/spinning/tanking off/spooking at everything on the lunge and i don't have a deathwish!

i lunged for 30 mins this morning before turning her out and she still spent a good 15 minutes leaping up and down on the spot once she was out....

roll on 24hr turnout!
