anyone else feel a twinge of guilt...

Yes, but as others have said she is a horse, and won't melt in the rain (although she would have me belive she does:p) but now I am going to have a very wet muddy horse to deal with a "monk on" and I am supposed to be going jumping tonight......:D:D

I don't mollycoddle mine. They are predominantly out and I have never owned a heavy weight rug BUT, some horses hate the wind and rain and if they are miserable, shivering and cold then I can't see why you wouldn't put a rainsheet on for a few hours.

My gelding wears a rainsheet/summersheet thing, because it is supposed to reflect heat, repels some flies and keeps him reasonably clean in the rain. he loves the rain & mud though.

My mare - (who is as hard as nails), has a fab fine coat in the summer and hates to be wet. She stands & shakes & gets quite distressed. I hate to think of her unhappy in the rain so she gets a sheet on, or comes in if it is really foul.

Ruby has a no fill rainsheet on sometimes. Only when it is chucking it down, as I want to keep her dry for riding :p but if only light showers she goes out naked, I don't feel guilty.

light showers are fine, even heavy showers are ok. but it's been such heavy rain here non-stop and really blustery.

the main thing is indeed keeping him dry and warm for riding (although i do secretly feel happy that he's dry and snug too.) even though i left him in the stable today to dry for a while we still had to do a couple of circuits of madness before he went back to being dobbin again. he'll be a joy in the middle of winter if he keeps doing this every time he gets chilly!

Not normally, as lately it's been so warm that if she gets wet it doesn't take long for her to dry off!

It's a bit colder today so she's got a lightweight on. So sue me! :p

My boy prefers to be naked. He hates rugs. Not to the point of not wanting to rug him, you can just tell by his expression oh no rugs grrr. He also really hates rain though, so I will rug him as the months get a little cold, or I just leave him in if its heavy rain. Otherwise he just stands there with a sad grumpy face. He's a sunshine pony.
