Anyone else find galloping scary??

[ QUOTE ]
I galloped today, and my friend's horse got a bit too excited and bolted, then bucked, unseated her and she was galloping with no stirrups for about a quarter of a mile and then she fell off

She got knocked unconscious and had to go to hospital, I hope she's ok.

I get scared of falling off at a gallop, especially now. At least my horse is well behaved, so I can stop him whenever I want.

I hope that your friend is ok

no wonder your scared now

Oh you can't come out with our gang then. We get snooty looks all over the place when we clatter about on our silly ponies!

Had a great flat out gallop Saturday being chased by the other two reprobates I ride with, and I love it.

Tricksy: The cure for all those 'what if' questions is to ride fast motorbike. I have ridden large / fast bikes since I was a much younger man, and you just don't go down the 'what if' route at 145 mph on a race track....not if you want to stay in one piece.

I love galloping - the Moose is another of those "suspension-lowering" horses and she just drops and GOES and its fantastic. Pulling her up, however, is a different story, she gets VERY bouncy and is very hard to stay on. Last time we galloped, she slipped as I was pulling her up at the top of the hill and I came off, which hurt a LOT.

I absolutely love it, my welsh cob loves galloping, we often go out with my friend and her ex-racer. Over a short distance we stay in front as my boy likes to go from walk (or whatever) to flat out in one leap, if we keep going my friends TB sails past - doesn't stop my boy trying to beat him every time though

I thought I had galloped my Show Cob till we competed at Ponies UK last year.
My God he can move! It was like he'd found 5th gear - must've looked good too - we were called in 4th to lots of top (HOYS amongst them) Cobs!

No, a good gallop on a TB is one of the best feelings in life.

I can remember I was on holiday in Jamaica and I decided to go horse riding, which would end up riding the horses into the sea. (please bear in mind that I'd not long started cantering on Athena). Sounded brill until we got to the beach and then two horses in front decided to go for a gallop!!!! Well, that was it. My horse decided it was time for a gallop. I have never hung on so tight! All I could hear the riding instructor shouting was 'heels down Anna', heels down!!!!!!! At the time it was scary but I bet it can be exilarating once I pass the 'novice stage'!!!!

I totally understand that! I own a fast bike, a V8 monster & 2 TBs (both ex P2Ps) so I must be completely crackers. The TBs are the scariest rides of all but so much fun!

When I was younger, about 10, I always thought I had full out galloped. That is until I got sent up the verge on Raffles. He is mine now but wasn't at the time. Wee Cindy pelted off infront and Raff just tanked up the verge, it was brillant

My first gallop, although not flat out, was on a huge horse called Tonto. I was 7 and it was my first time on a horse, instaed of a pony. I just remember all the other horses tanking up the lane, and the instructer leaning out to grab my reins saying
"I think you better not go up there"
Tonto had other ideas. The normally lazy horse spun round and took off at gallop before the instructer could stop him
lmao, fun times
