Is anyone else finding their mares to have worse seasons this summer?
My mare usually behaves the same in season as out and ive never noticed much of a difference before but my god this year she is being a right randy monster!

She is fine to ride as always, a bit more distracted and on her toes maybe but thats it, shes still lovely to ride. On the ground however shes being a pain! She seems to be more 'in' season than out and im finding her seasons are merging together.
Shes getting quite clingy with others and calling more (normally she couldnt give a toss about other horses leaving her). Shes just obsessed with talking to horses and wickering over them.. the most embarrassing part though is that she keeps weeing!

If a horse is tied next to her she swings her arse in their face and wee's everywhere, about 4 or 5 times. Even if a horse walks past she wee's. People at my yard are finding it gross and bitching about it, I wash and sweep it up but she just does it constantly, she doesnt care that its concrete. Its really upsetting me as the other liveries are making it quite clear they dont want us on the yard!

Apart from the weeing, the over friendlyness and the neighing shes a lovely horse, she doesnt kick or bite and wouldnt hurt a fly.

Any suggestions of what may help? Shes on stroppy mare herbs but i dont think they are strong enough.. Im thinking of trying oestrus? Im wondering if the warmer weather this yr is making her worse?

It's is a right pain in the wotsit isn't it!
I know how you feel with people on the yard, luckily on my yard everyone is lovely however they do take the mick a lot

Suni is normally a bit of a pain when she comes into season anyway as she's already the biggest flirt going. Even when not in season she'll flirt with anything with a pulse, regardless of gender or species

:p
However this year with the warmer weather she is getting really grumpy with it. When she was in season last I tied her where I always do and she was trying to rear. So I moved her over near her mare friend that was in her stable. Suni spun round to give the mare her bottom and then when the mare touched her with her nose she squeeled and kicked out! I can't go anywhere without her weeing every few minutes. She also squeels at a sound i'm sure only dogs and dolphins can hear!
I tried oestrus last year and it worked quite well so I would say give that a go!

yes definetly my mare is a nightmare with her seasons this year and my yearling had her first season last month and was a complete pain in the arse ive never known them like this they are both really clingy this year to the boys to the point where the geldings cant wait to come in to get away from them.

and I thought it was just my mare! phew. My missy cow seems to have a constant wriggle on, bloody fidgets the whole time. She just can't seem to concentrate on anything and is weeing for england. Fortunately she manages to save her wee's for when I'm leading her in, but stopping in front of my daughters gelding, causing a pile up and weeing on the grass or saving it for in her stable where there is a bit of bedding to soak it up. She's not grumpy but more stressed. Fortunately my YO has mares so understands.

I was on the verge of selling her on saturday as I'd had enough of her bossyness but she seems to be out of it now and with this heat has setteld for a while...............harmony has been restored but for how long!!!

My daughters pony was a pain, clingy and calling a lot, much more forward going and distracted, I've put her on Oestress and she's been 100% better, we've had no problems recently, even her instructor has noticed, if anything she's almost too chilled out now!!!

At least im not alone! I'll try oestrus and see if that helps.
Shes such a super horse that it seems such a trivial problem really, either shes never really done it before or iv'e never noticed because the yards ive been at before have never bothered making an issue.
All I know is that its making me dread bringing her in and tieing her up because of the way people are treating us when shes like this

I can't believe horse owners can treat you this way, it is nature don't they understand! My mare has shown her seasons for the first time this year she is 7 I thought her behaviour was quite funny really having never seen her doing all the weeing (this was at a pregnant mare in the next paddock). A gelding will be in there in the next week so that will be interesting to watch!!
