I'm relieved we spent our August bank holiday digging a ditch and a soakaway - but wasn't expecting them to be used in anger this early in the year.
60mm of rain Sunday night into Monday morning and what looks like another 30mm from Monday morning until about 2am this morning.
I left the horses out because 1) I haven't sorted winter bedding and 2) the roads flash flooded everywhere so I wasn't exactly sure I was going to be able to get to them. All look exhausted this morning. They do have a shelter but the water was running right through it yesterday so they buried themselves in the hedge.
Got away lightly though. My old yard manager has just posted photos of her fields and house knee deep in water. All happened in under 30 minutes and looking at photos turning up on social media today there are loads of people pumping water out of their houses.
Soggy fields and mud are grim, but having it run through your house is horrendous.
Some drivers though.... I was roadside checking the drainage pipe yesterday in high viz. Road was a fast running river, single track and a tonne of potholes. Did people slow down? Nope.
