Anyone else go on breed specific walks?

Just curious really :)

My Tamaskan group meet up about once a month in various places around the country! We've been down to London and all the way up to Scotland for a holiday!

It's great fun and looks very impressive when the "wolves" are all running around in their pack!

I'll post more pics when I'm home from work :D

Yes. I belong to a Facebook group for my breed, Flatcoated Retrievers. The group walks are awesome with thirty odd flatcoats running loose and often swimming. Great fun.

I don't tend to following an experience years ago when I walked my 4 greyhounds with my friends 5 greyhounds and one GWP - we met another dog on the walk, it was chaos...... I blame the GWP of course ;)

I occasionally join a lurcher rescue walk and a greyhound walk but only one of mine really enjoys the chaos of an off lead mass walk and is reliable enough to stay civilised under any circumstances. One other will put up with it but would clearly be miles away and a third one would get too stressed. As to the terrier he would be a total liability thinking he is invincible and can take on dogs five times his weight!

Ooo rabatsa, I've been on a few of theirs. Are you planning on going to the Crayke one at end of Oct?
Sadly we lost our boy earlier this year so thinking I might turn up and get a well needed greyhound fix.

I often feel slightly sorry for the terrier owners we meet on our walks, as they try and drag away (usually while apologising) barking, snarling and snapping wee dogs who are straining at the leash trying to take on my malamute and husky :D My two usually just look bemused...

We meet up with my mum and her northern inuit in a secure field, but that's about it. The husky would probably love some other huskies to meet up and play with, as the mal isn't quite as speedy and can be a tad grumpy...

I used to regularly when we were 'up north'. There's a group which meet up regularly for on lead walks and the Sheffield Whippet Whirl which was off lead (although Fizz found it all overwhelming and didn't do much 'whirling'. I do worry about big groups of skinnies off lead after a friends lurcher broke his leg when we had a mini meet up but I do enjoy the walks.

Since I've been back in Shropshire I'm yet to find anything although I did get chatting recently to a lady from Shropshire Greyhound Trust so hoping to go to a walk with them when I see one organised.

We do go to things with our flyball team which she loves but it's mix breed.

Aw, I'm so glad there are others who do it too! I just love it!
As a whole, they're all fab :) We're all very vigilant, always on the lookout for other dogs/people/kids/bikes/horses...etc etc
Aside from one crazy lady who hit one of them with a stick, I don't believe we've had any incidents.

Our walk yesterday, only 4 this time! We've had 15 before I think...

From our Scotland holiday! I could only imagine what people would think if they came across them in the middle of nowhere!

The size difference... looks more like a wolf and a coyote! The big boy is one of the biggest, where as my little Tamriel is one of the smallest!

They are beautiful. Rather scary seeing them loose in the forest. What happens if a deer pops up? Or an elderly lady with a poodle?

When I meet a big group of walkers with dogs bombing about I always trot out the 'goth kid in the youth club' line.
My dog wants to sit in the corner on his own, listening to his records dressed in black, he doesn't want to play with the jocks :p

I did go to a sibe forum meet years ago and my then young and social dog enjoyed herself but I won't be in a rush to repeat the experience, with a few exceptions the people were an odd bunch. I heard they got kicked off the campsite the following day for drink and drug related reasons...! Mine are getting less tolerant as they get older too so we'll stick with working rallies, everyone is nicely staked out and no opportunity to pick fights. :p

I've a work colleague who goes to their 'pointy playdates' at Walford College and they seem very civilised, most are muzzled and bigguns run separately to littluns. :)

Lovely photos. I bet they are quite a sight running through woodland together.

I haven't been on one in a good few years.

When I lived in Lancashire, there were a few of us in the NW who were members of a GSD forum and we attempted to meet for group walks a few times a year - Formby beach was a favourite. Then when I moved to Scotland, there were three of us with GSDs who would meet up as and when we could.

This was a photo taken in 2009!

Occasionally I go to greyhound walks. I have decided I prefer one group to another though. One group is a bit evangelical for me and very much their way or no way on so many viewpoints!

Last Christmas walking with daughter and her young Vizsla we met a Viz Wizz, utter chaos! I can't imagine what a BT one would be like. Probably owners watching their beloved BTs disappearing over the horizon with an imaginery cartoon bubble over them saying"just stay where you are, we'll be back soon, we know where you are!"

We're all hyper-vigilant and all of them have great recall in a group :) All but my little girl are great with other dogs and we recall them instantly if we see one, I don't believe we've been caught out yet! (I haven't been on every single walk)
Though at the discovery of enclosed and private dog parks all over the country, our walks won't be the same again :D soooo much off lead!!!

Not really, given the nature of the werewolf, but he will be picked up in the car and travelled with other spaniels in the same car, different cage then probably walked with them. The walker has 2 springers and 2 cockers of her own.

I will be going to my first Manchester Terrier breed walk in a few weeks... Very excited, hope Frank enjoys it and doesn't disgrace himself ha.

No, I didn't even know there was such a thing but all your photos of the dogs together are lovely. I would have a problem though as I have springer and a springer/collie cross.

Manchester Terrier Mooches are legendary! When you have a numerically small breed they don't often meet others of their own kind, and when they do they love it. Mooches happen all over the country now, and are also a great way for anyone interested in being owned by an MT to come along learn more about them. You and Frank will have a ball!

i go to bedlington terrier meet ups and organised one down here on Westward Ho Beach. In Bedlington they had a meet up this year with over 135 bedlingtons :) most off lead. My meet up on Westward Ho! beach was about 20 bedlingtons, all running free, along with my whippet, and a couple of lurchers. All perfectly behaved, played beautifully, and had a great time for 3 hours solid. My bedlington and whippet slept for about 10 hours solid after that day

Squeeee, love your puppy profile pic! I'm getting so puppy broody haha... Nice to see another MT owner on here, think there's another one too - someone replied on my thread about what dog coat to get. It seems that quite a lot of MT owners are also horsey! I think it's coz they're so streamlined and sleek, like thoroughbreds ;)
