Anyone else got a gelding with too much interest in the ladies.

My horse is obviously good looking to the ladies and they all flirt at him etc, but the trouble is he is jumping out the field to get to them. One of them was in season yesterday and he was two fields away but still went to her creating havoc in the field he went into to get to her.

I have had blood tests done and am told he is not a rig but his behaviour is driving me mad.

Any suggestions would be gratefully received.

Ooo Thumps is one for the ladies, but has not resorted to jumping out of his field thank goodness. Although we do have mares in my field - so his natural inclinations are satisfied.

Sorry, don't know what to suggest....

Although electric fencings set back from the fences and gates may help??

Could you possibly talk to your vet to see if there is anything they can do to lower his testosterone (sp?) levels at all?
Until then put several rows of fencing up set back from the fence and make it as high as possible.
I hope you get to the bottom of it all.

How old was he when he was gelded? If he was gelded late this can account sometimes for this sort of behavior. I think the vet can give you something like jesterfaerie suggests to lower his testosterone. I think I would get a second opinion re being a rig. I once bought a gelding that ended up being a rig after he kept jumping hedges to get to a mare. Sent him back to who I'd bought him from who then got the woman they bought him off to buy him back as she was the one who had him gelded. But he still had one high inside and she didn't know I afelt quite sorry for her but he was a nightmare and nearly put me under a bus as his behavior became irratic at this time of year.

Hi, We've got a gelding similar and falls in love with mares, canters up and down the fence, tries to get out to them, especially if one is in season. While the mare next door to us was in season, we put another fence up so that he couldn't touch her over the fence which helped. We also put him on a product called SP Equine Health & Herbal - 'Hormonise' which we get from a company called Equus Health. Its brilliant and has really worked for him. Hes alot more managable. It says to keep them on it for 3 weeks, then a week off, then back on for 3 weeks, but a few days off it, he was back to his old self, we phoned equus health and they said there is no need to give geldings a break off it, and they can stay on it all the time. We've had him 10 years, and I wish I'd found this years ago!! They are really helpful if you phone them, give really good advice.

It's when they start taking too much interest in the boys when you need to worry

My OH Gelding is a real ladies man.(was convinced he was a rig but tests came back negative) We use Wendal Herbs Rig Calm on him, it is brilliant. Where before if we put him out with the mares he would herd them up and then start a fight with any other gelding that got within 12 feet so he had to be confide to a field on his own, but after using Rig Clam we can put him out with mares and he doesn't even react when they are in season and they are being the biggest tarts ever. It is worth giving it a try.

Thankyou all for your advice am gonna speak to vet again and try a supplement. As you have experienced its no fun going away from yard worrying about what you'll find on your return.

It was recommended, is not to expensive and you can get it from bluepony- Not 100% sure if it does much yet as only just started feeding it.
