Fell of my horse for the fourth or fifth time today and I've not even had her a year yet :p All pain ruled out, it just seems she has an aversion to working properly! Shame as she could be really lovely. I'm making progress though, I'm caring less about falling off and when I landed on a jump wing that someone had left out I looked across the school at her and started laughing rather than crying and vowing to never ride her again ;);)

Anyone else got one that is just naughty?! :p:rolleyes:

Used to ride one that was "cheeky" as everyone liked to call him. Used to dump me in puddles (when there was a TINY puddle in the arena and he happened to turn into a rodeo horse just as we were going through it -.- ), over jumps, into hedges...

Had been checked over numerous times and nothing physically wrong with him and when he was in a good mood he worked beautifully...but when he had it on him he sure knew what he was doing.

Shame really as he was only 12.2hh so ended up as a field ornament after me and my friends outgrew him as no other people small enough wanted to ride him :(

I have lost count of how many times I have fallen off my horse. He can be quite naughty and is partial to a bit of broncing and bucking in excitement or if he is a bit bored.

LIke you I just had to learn to ride better. He has all the various checks and he is absolutely fine but he does just have a naughty streak, tbh though I find it quite entertaining most of the time.

I came off on Friday at Trec training, perfectly behaved the whole session, then I asked for canter, was looking to go under the low branches and not expecting a problem, and suddenly he bronced and I was flying through the eye in my exploding jacket.:rolleyes: Naughty, naughty pony.

Today up on the Downs he had a few good bucks wanting to go into canter before I wanted to go into canter. Just being fresh but still, just being a bit naughty.

Think it helps if you can laugh about falling off and just get back on. I didn't ride as a kid so I think I am making up for lost time!:D:D

Mine is pretty well-mannered when you're on board. It's when you're not that he's a swine and I swear he pre-plans things!

He is 22 now and I've had him since a 4 yo, at first if you tied him anywhere he would put his head down and get his leg over the lead rope (didn't matter how tight he was tied) and then stand there, leg in the air as he knew you would have to comne and 'ressue' him! Essentially he didn't like not having attention!

He can also unbolt a door within a couple of seconds. He can undo any type of clip that you may use to prevent him doing this!

He sometimes likes to run off when you are leading him in a headcollar - now I now the 'look' in his eyes so can pre-empt when he's going to do this but occasionally he will still catch you unawares! I got a chain headcollar for him which solved this in the main BUT he then recognised when you had this and would be a swine when you tried to put it on!

The things is he never actually GOES anywhere, only as far as the nearest handful of food. Sometims he's belted across the field when he's escaped from being lead but he usually comes back within a couple of minutes.

It's part of his character I guess - he's not dangerous at all but it's like he sees it as a game and he'll flick his head when he has succeeded in his 'plan' as if he's extremely pleased with himself! I wouldn't chang him though! :D

sadley i have 22 year old cob who iv owned 18 years hes getting naughty and naughty the older hes getting. I have fallen of him more times in the last two months than in the whole 18 years and getting smarter with it.

My daughter's little pony is quite cheeky, she was always very good at dealing with him from a young age but he is one of those ponies that if you give him the inch he's running off with the mile! He once had a sharer, a young girl who could ride well but not much confidence in stable management, One memorable day her mum called me to say pony had cornered them in the yard and kept making faces at them every time they moved, the more scared they looked the more he escalated his behaviour. I came down and sorted him straight away, but he totally had their number, he was fine once she was on him but he threw every trick in the book their way and in the end they had to stop her from riding him.

My daughter's TB mare I am never sure if she is just naughty or if she has some underlying issue, and accept we created a lot of the issues by being far to novice-y to own her when we bought her as a 3yo 6wks off the track.

She did have issues with her pelvis and foot balance which probably caused some discomfort and we spent a lot of time and effort addressing those, she was a lot better but tbh she has always been and will always be prone to explosions. She was/is brilliant at pony rides, but if you ask her to do something she doesn't want to, watch out!

Yep! I have a welshxarab pony who i nickname gremlin! He is so much better ridden now - but he can be naughty when being led /tied up.

His favourite trick is to pull free when tied up and run off (he doesn't go far!) and the same when being led. He'll do it once in a while, no warning and no reason - just sets his neck, pulls the lead rope and ******s off bucking. Silly pony!

Yes!!!

I get sick of being told it's something I'm doing or there's an underlying reason and he's trying to tell me something. Nope - sometimes he's just a ****** for the hell of it.

Thing is, if you tell him off he's worse and has a proper paddy - spoilt creature! Sometimes it's funny, others not so much :( Was leading him from my other boy the other day (which I do all the time - ride and lead often and swap which one I ride each time), he was playing up, pulling, spooking, trying to go in front. Gave him a bit of a telling off which, sure enough, made him worse, as we rounded the corner to trot up the hill, he pricked his ears and took off taking Lockie, who I was riding, with him. Trying to stop a tonne of runaway horse is no fun  Could have killed him. Had to let him go before we all hit the deck and he then decided he'd stop. He's never done it before but you can never relax with him as he'll think of some new trick to either deck me or scare the crap out of me. He's 17 now and no signs of improvement. I get asked how do I put up with him but I guess it's his character that I find so endearing .... most of the time!! There is no mailce in him, he's actually very sweet to handle, but definitely has a bit of a "quirk" .... and that's the polite word for it!

I used to ride a pony at a RIDING SCHOOL and when he got bored he'd tank round the school until you fell off, dear little chap....:D

Lol! I used to ride a 30 something highland - he was a complete plod with beginners, but with me would tank off, stop suddenly and drop his shoulder - rider eating dirt, mission achieved!:D ******s they are ;)

My horse is a little s*** on his back and off the ground. I'm not a pushover either with him as he was a lot worse when I bought him, to the point where i was told to just put him down.

Where he is now is the best he'll ever be, but he's still a ******! He could be walking up to the field and then just rear randomly and throw himself sideways. Or we could be going for a canter in the field and he'll unleash his inner rodeo king.

I wouldn't change him for the world though!

Yep mine is great 99% of the time for me - can be a ****** for other people though, ridden and on the ground. With me he'll throw the odd buck out of exuberance or wait til we've done a clear round then drop his shoulder and roll me off.
oh well.

I have a rising two miniature who really is naughty but not aggressive and is just full of fun. You can almost see her thinking what she can do next to wind me up. She comes into the kitchen and opens cupboards pulling things out always looking at me as she does it. She steals gloves and picks up any buckets and throws them. She makes me laugh so much but wouldn't like a 15hh that behaved the same way.:D

I rode my ponies yesterday and the oldest, most experienced one was the naughtiest. He napped going off on a hack down the road, span, slid, ran backwards...was generally a total pain in the bum.

He is almost 20! He should know better!!!

My boy was dynamite for years. He was fantastic on the ground, but horrible at times to ride. Everything had been checked, but he'd just misbehave simply because he felt like it. I'd talked to two previous owners and he was the same with them. He'd typically buck but would also rear and spin. His favourite trick was to rear, launch off his hind legs, buck in mid air and land facing the opposite direction to where we'd started. He used to rear before show jumping rounds until he heard the bell and then he'd jump perfectly. He had to be supervised when tied to the float or else he'd a) untie himself and disappear, or b) paw at the metal mudguards until someone asked if he was okay, or c) throw his water bucket at passersby.

It all came to a head when he bucked me off on the road after spooking at a bird. He legged it home and fell over on the road. He got three stitches in his face and has scars down one side. He's been pretty well perfect ever since. He's only reared a couple of times (and they were fairly small rears), and only bucks if REALLY hyped up or in reaction to something. He's lovely to take out now, although he does still have to be supervised at the float. He's still his cheeky little self but without the psychotic tantrums!

Yes mine!
He has tried most tricks under saddle for the fun of it, and also has many other erm habits, like pulling hats off and wiping them in mud, bashing stable doors open, pushing roosting chickens off perches, blowing snot all over dog, taking a mouthful of water and dribbling it all over people, standing on riders toes whilst being mounted, holding head really high when a short person tries to put bridle/ headcollar on,pushing new people with head, Never gets away with it, always tries it :)

he also likes to watch riding lessons and runs up and down shouting encouragement in the event of any calamity ...

My ex racer was awful he just knew how to get you off and frequently would do so. He would drop is near side shoulder, twist his neck and do a mini bronc. After a few months owning him I stuck too him but my god he knew what he was doing. He would just look at you saying "haha ****".

God I miss that horse!!!!! Me and him just gelled and any of my friends who rode him used to hit the deck regularly lol.

Ive got one who thinks hes a dog.....forages through bins, squeezes into tiny spaces.....you name it. OH was mending a fence....drilling away with a small highland watching so intently his muzzle was almost touching the drill. Hes like an annoying neighbour....wont go away especially if he thinks you have snacks.
The arab isnt naughty,he just loves to storm around everywhere top speed. He doesnt bolt but will flip his bum repeatedly if he wants to canter out hacking but is fine once you agree and always comes back to hand..... Ive just had to find my brave pants and go with it lol

Just to add mine also has loads off tricks - he can undo my boot laces with his teeth, then waits till I bend down to tue them up and pushes me over! He'll pick rugs off his door and chuck them in the floor, knock his saddle off when I put it there etc.

The best thing he did was at a show one summer. We were standing in the line up and the judge was standing in front of him talking to me. He put his nose under her very large boobs and gave them a good old shove upwards and flung them in the air!! Luckily she found it funny as everyone in the line up was in hysterics. He then shook his head up and down and did the thing where they show their teeth which looked like he was laughing too.

He's an absolute horror but I love him dearly!! ;)

Thanks for all the replies, I've had a right laugh at some of these :D:D:D

And yes TeamChaser, now I know its just her being naughty I wont feel guilty giving her a smack for *******ing off ! :p:p

Brilliant!

My other welsh mare is generally a good girl to ride, has the odd buck etc but nothing with intent to dump you. She's done numerous cheeky things on the ground as she thinks she is comedy gold a couple of my favorites being once when we put a straw bale at the front of her stable ready to put down and we came back she was 2 hands taller cause she stood on it and was looking rather pleased with herself! Another when my mum was sitting in a fold up chair and she turfed her out of it and claimed it as her own  evidence-

and she once blew her nose and therefore snot all over my mum and sister once and proceeded to toss her head and flehmen so it looked like she was laughing :D
