Ok....the delicate 'high-maintainance' horse got a small clean cut on his leg on Friday....did the usual...cleaned it up etc and I just KNEW on saturday his lower leg would be swollen. Happens every time....its not hot or infected...just swells up overnight. Responds to a few days of cold-hosing/brisk walking and turnout.....right now he has an 'old lady' leg and 3 normal skinny ones.

*sigh*....same each time...doesnt usually need antibiotics or anything, just the routine advised by my vet...I'm thinking its time to get the old turn-out boots out of storage because now the grass has gone off a bit and they're back in at night I'm sure its happened during a gate-way tea-time fracas.

Either of the other two would have got a small scab...end of.

Anyone elses horse the same? What else do you do?

Right now I'm spending most of my time by the hosepipe...

if he doesn't need iv antibiotics or steriods then its not lymphangitis as this is the treatment required for this condition as i have a horse with this condition hope your horse is feeling better soon

I've never heard of lymphangitis not being treated with antibiotics, tbh. It is an infection after all. Try using homeopathic apis mel at 30c 3 times a day until the swelling goes down. Works a treat on my mare - great for insect bites and stings too!

I have a livery with it and although the antibiotics took the leg down a bit it has not totally gone. She has gone to a 'black box' guy and has put the horse on bran and epsom salts for a while along with a handful of rosehips in each feed. We will see if it works!!
