Don't know if anyone else has the same problem as us on our farm, but we have loads of ticks, the horses are coming in with them all over their heads, noses etc. Anyone got any ideas how to stop them?

Do you know i think one of our ponies is picking them up. He has tiny marks all over him and there was what looked like a tick. I touched it and it fell off, must have been full. I haaaattte them. I don't see what else it can be. I do hope not. My daughter went down to have a good check, Not heard back from her yet. I cannot deal with ticks

We've had problems with ticks for many years. There is not much you can do to stop them, the vet said you could in theory use Frontline, but bearing in mind it costs several £s to treat the dog, a horse dose would be very expensive. If they latch on to the horses body, I soak them with some cotton wool with meths or other spirit on which loosens them, and then pull them off with tweezers. On the lower leg they don't seem to hang on, but just have a munch and leave a scabby area, about once a week I give the lower legs a good wash off with some mild Hibiscrub and pick the scabs off - ugh!

Yes they are very bad this year. It was in the paper as well. I pulled one off myself a few weeks ago. Disgusting things that they are. A good insect repellant does help.
